Hotel La Scala is exactly what you want and expect from a pensione. We booked our room last minute on the train from Milan. We were greeted by friendly staff. It is very close to the train station and within walking distance of all the main sights in Florence. Our room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was great, and the chef was so accommodating. For this pricepoint, Hotel La Scala is perfect!

Clean, close to the train station, walking distance to essentially all attractions in town. Breakfast offered in a fairly small space, single long table. Espresso and egg options to order included. Otherwise, fairly basic buffet: croissant, cheese, fruit. Never left the hotel feeling hungry or like I hadn't had enough. To get in, you need to buzz the outside bell; easier to get up the stairs with luggage to start as you need a code to use the lift - and you don't get that code until you check in. Alternative is to leave your bags downstairs (two locked doors between lift and street) and run upstairs to get the code and check in.

I am giving it 3 stars mainly because the rooms were dark with not enough lighting. The bathrooms were updated, but the room is on the older side. I am giving it 3 stars mainly because the rooms were dark with not enough lighting. The bathrooms were updated, but the room is on the older side. The front desk stated it was an old 15th-century building. If that is what you are looking for, that it is a good hotel. Customer service was good, and the location is about 15 min walking distance to the Centrale Market.

This hotel is very comfortable and it was clean and well maintained. Location is good and near the train station Santa Maria Novella by 10 min walk if dragging luggage. 15-25 mins walk to all major locations. Good restaurants and beautiful perfumery on the same street Down side is hotel is on 2nd floor and the stairs access corridor has a very bad sewage smell so have to hold your breadth. There is a very slow lift to move the luggage. The front room we were allocated was facing the road and the traffic and crowd noise is quite loud the whole night thru to morning. Not suitable for light sleepers.. The wifi is terrible and unstable and most of the time have to use own mobile plan. Upside is water is provided and tea and coffee service in the room. We had a breakfast included room and had fried eggs and warm croissants. On the day we had to leave early for a day tour, hotel staff prepared a take away breakfast for us the night before. Overall ok but was expecting better for the price we paid.
