We had two excellent meals at the restaurant at Poimbaia during our recent stay in Montalcino. Excellent handmade pasta, delicious stewed boar, great steak. Super friendly service, nice wine list. We would definitely go back, and I understand they host cooking classes - next time I'm definitely learning how to make pinci :)

“Great place and excellent food”

This place is all what you want for have a good time, for eat and Relaxing. The place is wonderful and the food and the service is excelente, we ate the meat and pasta and it was excelente, and everything is bio. I wish i could live there every days.

Piombaia was the perfect location for exploring Tuscany's wine region. Located outside of Montalcino in a tiny, quaint village, it was also within easy reach of Montapulciano and Siena (you'll need to rent a car if you plan to stay here). Piombaia was the perfect location for exploring Tuscany's wine region. Located outside of Montalcino in a tiny, quaint village, it was also within easy reach of Montapulciano and Siena (you'll need to rent a car if you plan to stay here). The room was very large, with a kitchen tucked ingeniously into a cabinet! The bed was large and comfortable. Breakfast, available for an extra charge, was generous and delicious, well worth what we paid. While you are staying don't skip the chance to eat at the restaurant. The food served there was nearly all raised within miles of the restaurant and was delicious - a locavore's dream. Please note that while the hotel does offer wifi, you will have to go to the special shared livingroom on the second floor. Due to the structure of the building, the wifi does not reach the rooms. We did not find that to be an issue.

This agriturismo is a bit outside Montalcino, in a little collection of buildings/businesses--not quite a village, but a settlement of sorts, I suppose. There's a trattoria next door, which was very good, and we liked walking around the nearby fields. Our room itself was very spacious accommodations—we would have been very comfortable here for a longer stay, with a basic kitchen, table and chairs and sofa in the main room and a good-sized bedroom behind it. We really enjoyed the pool and hot tub. At Piombaia, you’re only renting a room--there’s no breakfast, and no daily maid service, so that's a bit of a negative, I think. And there's only wi-fi in a common room around the corner. Our hostess arranged a tour of the family's winery for us, and we tasted (and bought) some really delicious wine!)
