It’s very easy to find this peaceful campsite, just a kilometre or two outside one of Italy’s most visited small towns. We were made very welcome when we arrived and allowed to choose our own pitch amongst the established trees. The site had all the facilities we needed, plus a well-supported restaurant with a well-stocked shopping area. San Gimignano is a stunning town, perched on a nearby hillside with its fourteen towers looming over the other old buildings. The town could be seen from the campsite across the undulating Tuscan countryside. There is a regular local bus service that stops right outside of the campsite, making it an easy and short trip to the gates of the town. One slight criticism of the campsite is the low amperage for the hook-ups … you do have to be careful not to run too many things at the same time.

We stayed here for 10 nights. Positives: we had a great sized pitch with shade (although we felt sorry for some of the tents on uneven, stony ground) toilet/showers/washing facilities good and kept clean (although smelly drains after rain); bus service into San Gimignano (€4.80 return for 2 adults). Swimming pool large and even though busy, not overcrowded (free to campers). Less positive: the website makes it seem as if the swimming and tennis are part of the campsite - this is not strictly true. The pool is part of a leisure centre and is a 5 minute walk (not really a problem, but might be if you have small children as the road can be busy). The tennis is completely separate and needs to be booked there: 10 euros per hour so not bad. Negative: the restaurant and bar can also be accessed by the public (not so good for security). It can be very noisy in high season, not necessarily because of the campers, but because local residents use it. At midnight, when it closed, there could be a lot of noise; people leaving the bar and going to their cars spent as much as 30 minutes talking, shouting, beeping car horns etc before finally leaving. The campsite had a silence policy between midnight and 7am, which campers respected, but it was impossible to sleep while all the other noise was going on. Also coaches parking in the road next to our pitch, starting up and running engines in the morning (lots of pollution and bad for people with asthma); dropping off people late at night (also leaving the engine running). Back to the restaurant/bar. The website does not state that there is entertainment in high season. Not a problem usually, but of the 10 nights we were there, there were three bands, two of which played till midnight and were incredibly loud (unnecessary for such a small area) and the third was fine and also finished by 11.30, which is very reasonable. When we went to see what was happening on the first band night, there were literally only two or three people sitting there at 11.30pm, so we assumed it was some sort of private party. Obviously this wasn't the case, but we weren't to know that. It would be very helpful if the website was brought up to date and was more accurate about these facilities.
