“Great hotel”

The hotel fills welcoming, beautiful decorated and have everything you will need. Great location inside the old city. Few minutes walk from parking 1 (6€ for 24h) and even closer to parking 2 (20€ for 24h). A great place to stay if you are stopping by the lovely city

Beautiful historic stone bulding inside the walls of San Gimignano. The room (we got "upgraded" to a suite) was spacy and the apparently traditional room decoration - obviously nicely renovated some time ago - gave a very romantic and idyllic feeling in this gorgeous place. The large bathroom with jakuzi type bath tub and a large separate shower cabin a few stairs down from the main room was also beautiful. The very friendly and helpful hostess/owner contributed a lot to the "feel-good" atmosphere. We had booked the room without breakfast because we wanted to explore the cafes and bakeries of San Gimignano. Lots of nice places within maximum 5 minutes walk to get good coffee and breakfast. We will come here again! As the place is located inside the city walls it can't be accessed by car (unless you have a resident's authorization). So we had to park the car on the closest carpark (P2), about 300 m walking distance between car and hotel. That's absolutely acceptable with rather light luggage. But the car park is quite expensive, especially during day time (we paid more than EUR 30,- for about 24 hours parking). A cheaper car park is located about 800 m distance and requires a walk uphill to the city. However, because of this (no cars inside the walls) the city is so nice and spectacular. Therefore, this is not really a disadvantage.

“A calm oasis away from the crowds”

We stayed here as a family of 3 in a triple room. We were given room 10 in Torrione 2 which had a lovely terrace that looked out over the beautiful surrounding hills; a perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or an evening drink. The room was very traditional in style, had been fairly recently renovated and was extremely clean. It had a large wardrobe with plenty of hanging space, a desk and large chest of drawers. There was a small fridge/mini bar and a small TV with international channels. The air conditioning was quiet although we wasn't sure how to get the room cooler. The bathroom was a good size with a shower cubicle, water was plentiful and hot with an efficient extractor. The beds were traditional and the mattresses rather firm but not not uncomfortable. There was a small kitchen area outside in the communal area that had various crockery and utensils. I used the gas hob to heat water for tea that I had brought from home. The external door to the road is kept closed/locked and we were given the key for this and our own room. Palazzo al Torrione 1 & 2 are next to each other and only 1 road back from the main pedestrianised road, accessed through an alleyway. It is a very quiet area but in the middle of San Gimignano. The owners were pleasant and helpful and could be reached either in Torrione 1 or at the tobacconist they own (1 minute away). They also provided us with a phone number for any problems (we didn't have any). We didn't have breakfast here but went to the wonderful bakery at the end of the alleyway (less than 1 minute away) each morning for fresh pastries and cappuccinos that we enjoyed on our terrace. The bakery also sells great sandwiches and speciality chocolate. We felt privileged to have stayed here.
