“Nice and Reasoinable”

The hotel is a great little spot, off the main street, so it is nice and quiet. It's big brother Matsumotoro is just up the hill and has indoor/outdoor baths. Pinon only has indoor. “Quaint and understated”

French-themed onsen, located just down the hill from its parent, Ryokan Matsumotoro. It features men's and women's onsens, and private onsens that you must reserve ahead of time. The baths are really nice and relaxing, the town is well-known for its golden water, and it was quite nice to soak in it. Pinon rooms include both breakfast and dinner. Breakfasts you get a choice of Chinese or American. If you prefer you can have a Japanese buffet up at Matsumotoro. Dinners are set menus that change theme that change every other day--Chinese food (sort of) or French (sort of). The food is really nice. I wouldn't say the hotel is spartan, nor would I say it is very fancy. I am not sure I agree that Pinon is French themed, but it definitely doesn't fit a model of Japanese style either. Pinon is located just "below" the main part of the town. Ask the bus driver for the stop for Matsumotoro and Pinon is a block down the steeper hill. The town is the next stop up. The hill is fairly steep. It might be difficult for older people negotiating luggage, but there is a taxi stand directly across from Matsumotoro at the top of the hill on which Pinon is located. I f you miss the stop for Matsumotoro, the main stop in town adds only another 5 minutes or so to your walk Finding Pinon is pretty easy with Googlemaps. There are no English language signs for it, I don't think there is an English sign on the building. One or two people spoke decent English. I would not rely on getting to the hotel without maps One piece of advice: If you have issues with hills, take a taxi to the top of the townstairs/the bridge or the outdoor onsen and walk down the steps of the town. It was about 750 Yen, and made everything more pleasant..
