We stayed for 2 nights at Hotel Nord Otaru. The location is quite close to Otaru Station (about a 10–15 minute walk), and the hotel is right next to the canal. Book your room at canal view room, the view is really beautiful. The service at the front desk was warm and welcoming. Additional amenities are available at the lobby, such as cleansing oil, toner, and face cream in sachets, all from DHC, which is quite a well-known skincare brand in Japan. There’s also drip coffee and creamer available, you can grab some and bring to your room. The hotel room is spacious, and the room amenities are complete, which makes everything very convenient. The design feels a bit old-classic, but it’s super clean and still very beautiful, it doesn’t feel like an old building at all. There’s also a laundry room on the 2nd floor (one level above the lobby), with washing and drying available for 600 yen per cycle (usually takes 2hrs). Very convenient, especially during winter travel. The hotel also provides transparent umbrellas you can borrow (very cute!), perfect for snowy days, just return them when you’re back. Restaurants are available inside the hotel, although we didn’t get a chance to try them. There are vending machines on the 4th floor (soft drinks only) and 6th floor (soft drinks and alcohol). Right across the hotel, there’s LeTAO, and there are also a few souvenir shops nearby where you can find items specially made in Otaru or Sapporo (things you might not find elsewhere in Japan). Most of them are tax-free, so don’t forget to bring your passport. There’s also a Miffy Store Otaru within walking distance, along with other interesting shops and places to eat nearby. AEON Mall Otaru is about a 30-minute walk, or you can take a bus or taxi. By taxi, it only takes around 7–10 minutes, but like most places in Japan, it can be quite pricey (I used the GO Taxi app). Overall, this hotel is quite affordable (especially considering it’s right next to the canal), with great facilities and warm service. I would definitely come back here if I visit Otaru again next time.
