Formerly known as “Seaside Hotel Yakushima,” we stayed here for almost a week while visiting Yakushima. We have been here twice before, and love it. We stayed in a ryokan style room with a view looking out over the ocean. Our room plan included breakfast, and the breakfast buffet had numerous choices for everyone, Asian and Western, and as vegetarians we had no trouble finding plenty to eat. Coffee machine offers coffee, latte, or espresso, as well as hot water for tea. The hotel was able to arrange our day hike to see Jomon Sugi, which was very convenient. Would highly recommend staying here. Staff is friendly and accommodating. There are onsen downstairs, as well as a coin laundry next to the gift shop. Located about a five-minute walk from the port. They also provide free airport shuttle service.

“Excellent hotel”

“Overpriced, but if you want nice in Miyanoura, you gotta pay up”

I think this hotel used to be called the Seaside Hotel Yakushima, so also look for reviews there on TripAdvisor. This is one of the most expensive hotels I have stayed at, but not the best hotel I have stayed at. You are paying for the lack of competition. The island is sort of rustic all around, and most of the accommodations are a bit older and not very luxurious. There are not really any "middle ground" options (at least, not in/near Miyanoura), so either you pick somewhere rustic to stay, or splurge on a place like this. Indeed, we did splurge on the deluxe, newly upgraded Double Namiato Biyori room. It was pretty large (especially for Japan), and had a spacious balcony overlooking the ocean. In case it is raining, the exterior wall facing the ocean is just a big glass window, so you can still gaze upon its majesty from the comfort of your room - and even from the bath tub! Our room was basically clean. There was a large water bug permanently squished within the roll-up curtain in the bathroom, so I just kept that rolled up at all times so I didn't have to see it. Every now and again a flying insect would find its way into the room, but Yakushima is a wet place, so definitely it could have been worse. All in all, the staff did a great job ensuring it was spotless. That said, I am not sure why the hotel decided to go with the gray concrete block, "bunker" aesthetic for the walls, both in the rooms and the hallways. That material seems like it holds onto moisture quite a lot, and it is not visually appealing. At least, not to my design sensibilities! The breakfast buffet was huge, pretty tasty, and very busy. Seats near the window fill up fast. People always seemed to already be in there even before the breakfast buffet was officially supposed to be open. The on-site sauna and onsen were popular, but we did not use them. We did use the on-site coin laundry. Run the dryer longer than you think you need to! Or else, just leave enough time for things to hang dry in your room. The front desk staff was pleasant and gracious. They prepared a bento box for us to pick up the morning we planned to hike. There was an error with the bill when I was checking out (overcharge), but they fixed it right away. The little cafe in the lobby was pleasant for a drink and a snack, but it is unfortunately not open in the evening. There is plentiful parking for guests on-site. The location of the hotel is extremely convenient, as Miyanoura town is near both the airport and the popular Shiratani Gorge hiking trail.
