An authentic onsen, at least it felt authentic to me, being no expert of Japanese culture. Traditional rooms, make sure to book one with the bath in the room. It’s not a fancy place, but really enjoyable. It reminded me of school trips, but in a weirdly positive way. The proximity to the airport was not an issue, didn’t hear the planes and there was no irritating traffic. The food was good and supposedly he’s as well. The massage provided on site was excellent as well, especially the gentleman masseuse was very skilled. The onsen is supposed to make you younger three years at every dip. Now I am not sure that actually perspired, but I did feel well rested, much better than when I arrived. I had an excellent experience and really cannot think of any negatives.

We spent 2 nights here at the beginning of March and absolutely loved it. We had two Japanese style rooms (one per person), with Tatami mats on the floor and Futons as a bed. We had a toilet, but a bit strangely no shower, which was not a problem, because in the indoor and outdoor baths, there are good shower facilities. The rooms are a bit small, but totally okay for one person (for two persons it would be a bit crowded). The indoor and outdoor baths are lovely and as usual, separated by gender. We had halfboard included, which was amazing. Dinner is a several courses Kaiseki dinner, and really tasty and diverse. If you dont eat meat, seafood and fish, you will not be happy however. Breakfast is a japanese bento box, and a small buffet. For lunch, you can order a bento box, which we did, and which was very tasty and the best bento box I had so far in 3 trips to Japan. Staff is very friendly, and even if they dont speak much englisch, they really go out of their way to help. The Ryokan is just opposite the small airport, where there is also a bus stop. In easy walking distance there are two supermarkets, and a very good italian restaurants (Il Mare), which make excellent pizza and pasta, using local ingredients like shitake mushrooms and boar meat. The buses run very unfrequently, so you are better off with a rental car. Its excellent value for money, especially if you love japanese food.

I stayed in a western twin room as a solo traveller - it was a good size with a separate raised area with a mat and table. Also had it's own shower and toilet. All of the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful on multiple occasions e.g. came and found me to let me know the latest situation with Yakusugi Land after I had enquired earlier (there was an incoming typhoon) and walked me over to the bus stop after I couldn't find it (the map didn't show the bus stop as being right outside the airport). The staff were also a great help explaining ferry schedules and the bus timetable/system (not great as infrequent although of course nothing to do with the hotel). I stayed 3 nights (one more than originally intended due to the typhoon) and dinner was great (and different) each night - a variety of small to medium-size dishes (sashimi, fish cooked in a variety of ways, clams, pork, shabu shabu) together with rice, soup, dessert and tea. Breakfast was also good (although not as good as dinner) with a good selection of items. There is an inside and outside onsen. Main two things for improvement from my perspective: -the mattress was a bit hard for my liking -the WiFi was slow and I had more luck using the 4G connection on my phone most of the time
