Guesthouse Toi was a great spot for a solo traveler for one night in Hakone. It was an easy bus ride from Hakone-Yamamote just pay attention so you can request the correct stop. The walk to the old fashioned train was easy with a cute little cafe nearby with free footbath while you eat. From there, a quick launch point to all major Hakone sights. The guesthouse was clean and homey inside. Thanks to helpful staff including Mayu for her great suggestions! It was cold while I was there but the bed was comfortable and the heater worked great. One thing to note, if you opt for a private room, you may be located out of the main building. Not so big of a deal, but you have to walk outside to the next building for toilet and shower. Small onsen included was excellent! Overall, a lovely stay for a solo budget traveler.

“Loved it”

We stayed here back in October 2016 as part of our tour around Japan. We absolutely loved it here. We stayed in the private room which although very basic was clean and comfortable. We stayed here back in October 2016 as part of our tour around Japan. We absolutely loved it here. We stayed in the private room which although very basic was clean and comfortable. The train going past can be a little disrupting but we found ourselves quickly getting used to it. The staff here are great and very friendly. We stayed up at the bar with them one night and drank whiskey with their monk friend!! Was lots of fun. My husband used the onsen there which he enjoyed and the staff cooked us fresh breakfast every morning which was lovely.

I stayed here with my partner for 3 nights. It was great for what we needed, a good base for all the activities we did while in Hakone (rope way, hiking up mountains & onsens) Just a note to budget travellers there is no fridge or kitchen area - we had been doing our own breakfasts/ some meals as we went but there isn't anywhere to store things here- wasn't a problem but worth noting! Apart from that it was clean & the hosts are lovely. Pretty quiet little inn. We stayed in the mixed dorm room.

We stayed for two nights in a private room. It had a heater and lots of covers so we were warm enough but the mattress was very thin so it was not the most comfortable sleep. Breakfast was simple and cheap. The couple running the guesthouse are very friendly and helpful. The shared shower room is basically a one person onsen which was really hot! It is a 10-15 minute uphill walk from the bus stop (don't get off at the first miyanoshita stop - this is for the train station. Stay on a couple more minutes to the next stop- miyanoshita onsen).
