My family with 4 persons(2 kids)stayed in this Onsen Ryokan for 3 nights. It has 6 rooms only. We stayed in the biggest room with private open air hot spring. We can see far view of partial lake Ashi and Mount Fuji from our room and it has a small Japanese style garden too. You can enjoy the real Japanese style of living and food there. You may think the portion of Japanese style breakfast and dinner a bit much but you can order western style breakfast if you like. The location is excellent. It is right next MotoHakone which is a few minutes walking distance only. My kids enjoyed the stay so much.

Our stay at Hananoyado Fukuya was designed as our two-night luxury ryokan getaway of our trip to Japan. It certainly delivered elements of this. The food was incredible, a true kaiseki experience of 11-12 courses for dinner and an equally stunning breakfast. The chef is clearly first class. The location of the ryokan is also fantastic, 2 minutes walk from the lake at Motohakone, although the hill up is steep (they will pick you up from the 7-11 if requested). Now, the downside. This is an expensive stay. The room alone would equate to around $800 AUD per night for a family of four, and dinner effectively doubles that. We had no change from about $3,500 for two nights. At that price, I was expecting excellence in the accommodation. The room we stayed in (202) was however dated (particularly the bathroom) and in need of a refresh. While it was large and spacious, we didn’t get to select our room and as a result we had what looked to be the worst balcony onsen (the only one not seen on the booking site photos) and a view that looked out onto a old carpark. If the ryokan can refurbish its rooms, then it has all the hospitality and charm to be a luxury stay in the future.

Yes, it's fake and an act, but if you're willing to play along you can have an interesting stay here. The guest house is a ordinal residential house, decorated as a traditional Japanese guest house, Ryokan. It is just outside the city centre, up a steep hill. Please note that the hosts are very strict that there is no check-in before at 15:00. We had our own bath, onsen, right outside the room, but there is also a shared onsen for all guests, which we did not try. If you plan to stay overnight here I recommend you to check out what a traditional Japanese meal, kaiseki, consists of. There are very many dishes that are fermented and pickled. I don't think the flavor dishes were so bad, but the consistency of some dishes was somewhat demanding. I was unable to eat every dish, but it was interesting to have tried this type of meal. Breakfast can also be demanding for those who are accustomed to cereal or eggs and bacon. We stayed here one night before we went on and that was perfectly fine, two nights had probably become a little too much for me.
