This was my first experience at a Ryokan and it was wonderful. Seems good for both tourists and locals alike, as the staff was very accommodating with the language barrier. They had a private onsen, which was a nice way to be able to experience the onsen while still spending time with my husband. The outdoor bath was also amazing and felt very rejuvenating. We elected for a massage as well, and the masseuse was very good and helped increase the overall relaxation of the experience. The food was excellently prepared and very fresh with local ingredients. You can take a shuttle to the train if you want to explore kyoto or other tourist spots. We opted to stay more local and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Kameoka. There was a few small temples within a 20-30 minute walk and some cafes as well. I think a stay here is definitely worth the value. I hope to have the ability to come back here one day.

Upon arrival, we were greeted with Matcha and Wagashi and a choice of Yukata. The staff here are all very experienced, and the fact that not all of them have a good command of English, added to the authentic feeling to it. The service here was fantastic and the staff do try very hard and are very warm. We loved the traditional design of the rooms, we stayed at the top level Suite suite which was spacious and came with a massage chair, and two of the western style room with open-air bath. Since we are a big group, the top level suite made sense, but otherwise I think any room with an open-air bath would suffice. The food was more to our liking, especially my wife’s, as it contained more vegetables and was of the right quantity. We had a lovely stay here and think this is a great option to experience an onsen ryokan that is very close to Kyoto.

Traditional rock gardens; lovely public, private and room balcony hot spring baths overlooking nature; exquisite cuisine, and massage therapists. The perfect place to pamper yourself and unplug.

This was our first stay at an onsen and it didn't disappoint. The baths were relaxing, my partner got an amazing massage, and the beds were so comfortable with pillows unlike any we'd seen before, but made for sleeping with excellent posture. We woke up refreshed, relaxed, and feeling great. There are a couple of things to know, however. First, the meals, while fresh and overall very good, give you a little bit of everything. It's all traditional, and we didn't like all of it. However, we liked most of it and left full after dinner and breakfast. If you're on a time schedule the next day, check the information that they give you. The information on the email they sent us, told us pickup from the north exit from the train station at 1:30pm (this happened and they were early), and back at the train station north exit at 11:00 the next morning (this is the problem). With that information, we booked an 11:20 train back to Kyoto with a transfer to the bullet train for our trip to Osaka. However, they planned to have us leave the Onsen at 11:00, arriving at the train station at 11:30. This would have made us miss our bullet train to Osaka, on which we'd already purchased tickets. Luckily, we caught the misunderstanding just in time, but had to rush. Also luckily, there was another couple that needed to leave at 10:00, so they put us on the 10:00 shuttle and we made all of our connections. Just make sure when you get that email, you know you'll be at the station at 11:30 and make plans accordingly.
