Located along Kyoto’s Teramachi Shopping Arcade area, Hotel Gracery Kyoto Sanjo is a contemporary hotel convenient to shopping, restaurants and transportation. My son and I stayed three nights there during January 2026. We stayed in room 335 in the South building; it was relatively small, simply appointed but quite functional. The restroom configuration was very convenient, with the vanity, water closet and bathing room all separated. The beds were quite firm, as were the pillows; we slept fine, but woke up with stiff necks every morning. Be prepared to live out of your suitcase, as there were no drawers or storage areas for your clothes, just a couple of hangers. The lights, plumbing, air conditioning and complimentary Wi-Fi all worked fine. When you check in, you are given the option of purchasing their breakfast service, which includes both Japanese and Western breakfast favorites. If you forget any of your toiletries, they offer a complimentary self-serve amenities bar, featuring items such as toothpaste, lotion, tea bags, etc. We did a lot of walking in Kyoto and found this hotel to be a good base for our walks. It was less than a 5-minute walk to Nishiki Market, a 7-minute walk to the Kamo River, anywhere between 5-15 minutes to the various subway stops (depending on which line you need to take), and a 25-30-minute walk to such sites as Yasaka Shrine, Nijo Castle and Yasaka Pagoda. The common areas were very clean and well-kept, and the hotel staff was uniformly pleasant, polite and helpful. If you are not concerned about luxuries and prioritize function and value in a hotel, Hotel Gracery Kyoto Sanjo is a very good option.

“Nice hotel, might prefer one slightly closer to Gion for first timers”

The hotel is located right in a main shopping area in Sanjo. A 7-11 is steps away so it’s great for some quick snacks. The hotel is located right in a main shopping area in Sanjo. A 7-11 is steps away so it’s great for some quick snacks. Despite it being super busy around the hotel I didn’t have any issue with noise, but that may vary depending on what floor you’re on. It’s about a 12-15 minute walk to Gion where you’re likely to do a lot to your sightseeing. I probably would find a hotel closer to Gion/a train station next time but it wasn’t a bad experience. However, if you’ve been to Kyoto multiple times and Gion-specific sites don’t make up the majority of your itinerary, this would be a good choice.

“Well located and superior rooms give access to premium lounge free drinks and snacks”

Spent first 4 nights here in the specialised Kabuki Room (see photos) in the south building and the 2nd 4 nights in a standard room. The Kabuki room, which replicated a theatre, was a nice change and provided many a giggle and challenge at times, particularly when trying to find the right light switch to turn off at night. As the Kabuki room was superior we had access to the premium lounge between 7pm-10pm for free drinks and snacks which was nice. Used the laundry room too which was a good bonus (cheap to use too - £2.50 a wash and 50p per 20 minutes for the dryer). Well located in a covered shopping precinct so access to shops and eateries was just outside the door. Female staff were more approachable than the males and seemed to have more English but all were helpful. We used luggage forwarding when staying here which worked very well and it was in our room waiting for us 2 days later in Tokyo. Hotel is comfortable, clean and well maintained.

Stayed here last year and decided to stay here again for 1 night. The Hotel is a short walk from Sanjo Station and is located on the shopping street. The staff assisted with the check-in and also the sign-up of new membership. The room is not very big, but comfortable for 2 people. Having stayed here before, I already knew what to expect. Paid for breakfast at the Lobby, and the breakfast buffet spread was pretty decent and delicious! Great location with plenty of eateries and shopping options, I look forward to staying here again!
