Where to even start! We arrived 2 hours before check-in time hoping to drop our bags and head out for a few hours. Instead, we were told that our room was ready if we wanted to freshen up. The room is quite spacious and has a queen size bed. The hotel has separate onsen for men and women. Many of the staff speak English, which was great, as my Japanese is weak. We were given restaurant recommendations and a map of nearby spots. They have a free hotel shuttle that will deliver you to the major attractions in Kyoto. All-in-all, service, location and hospitality far exceeded the value pricing. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

“So so good.. ”

As good a hotel in a city centre location as we have stayed in for a long time. Perfect location only 10 minutes from central train stations. Staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was top draw. Free bus tour each morning. It really is hard to find a fault, loved our stay...

Hotel Kuu Kyoto is in a great location, especially considering how difficult Kyoto can be to navigate due to its size and the number of attractions spread across the city. It’s only around 15 minutes from Kyoto Station and has excellent bus and train connections, so we were able to get everywhere we wanted with ease. The hotel itself was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. There’s also an amazing temple directly opposite the hotel that we hadn’t known about beforehand, which was a really nice surprise. We did have a couple of minor issues — the toilet seat was unusually hot at first, and the safe in our room didn’t lock properly — but the staff addressed these concerns quickly. Aside from that, the room size was perfectly fine, although we did accidentally book a twin room, which may have made it feel a bit more spacious. Laundry facilities were also very helpful as this was the midpoint in our trip around Japan so it was nice to wash our clothes.

I recently stayed at Hotel Kuu Kyoto as a solo female traveller, and my experience was mixed. When I arrived, the hotel initially refused to accept my booking, even though it had been officially transferred to me through a reputable platform and I had all the correct documentation. They told me I would need to pay the full amount again if I wanted to check in, which was stressful and unsettling, especially as a solo female traveler. After the booking platform intervened, the hotel did eventually accept the reservation. They then insisted I pay an additional non-refundable fee (explained as some form of “insurance” because the booking had been transferred). This came to around £70, and it was not a deposit. I paid it because I didn’t feel I had much choice at that point, but it did leave me feeling taken advantage of. Because of all this, I didn’t feel fully comfortable during my stay and chose not to dine at the hotel, using it mainly as a base instead. On a positive note, the location is excellent — close to the station and directly opposite a beautiful temple. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable. I also experienced noise issues, being woken very early on two mornings by what sounded like heavy furniture being moved around.
