Where to even start! We arrived 2 hours before check-in time hoping to drop our bags and head out for a few hours. Instead, we were told that our room was ready if we wanted to freshen up. The room is quite spacious and has a queen size bed. The hotel has separate onsen for men and women. Many of the staff speak English, which was great, as my Japanese is weak. We were given restaurant recommendations and a map of nearby spots. They have a free hotel shuttle that will deliver you to the major attractions in Kyoto. All-in-all, service, location and hospitality far exceeded the value pricing. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

“So so good.. ”

As good a hotel in a city centre location as we have stayed in for a long time. Perfect location only 10 minutes from central train stations. Staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was top draw. Free bus tour each morning. It really is hard to find a fault, loved our stay...

A lovely little hotel only 10 minutes walk from Kyoto station. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the rooms are comfortable and very clean. We stayed 4 nights but because we initially booked 3 we had to move rooms (our fault) but the staff kindly looked after our luggage and put it in our new rooms while we explored Kyoto. They even kept the contents of our fridge chilled for us. We elected not to include breakfast every day, but did try it once and the selection was huge. Mostly Japanese but with plenty of western foods too. The public baths were also lovely, particularly the larger one, which alternates daily between men and women. The only downside is that like many central city hotels the view from the window was a little limited so if the temple view rooms are available I would definitely book those next time. They also provide a bus which takes you to many of the local sights though we didn’t use this, but we did go on the free firefly trip in the evening which was lovely. The bus is definitely an experience! A lovely stay.

I recently stayed at Hotel Kuu Kyoto as a solo female traveller, and my experience was mixed. When I arrived, the hotel initially refused to accept my booking, even though it had been officially transferred to me through a reputable platform and I had all the correct documentation. They told me I would need to pay the full amount again if I wanted to check in, which was stressful and unsettling, especially as a solo female traveler. After the booking platform intervened, the hotel did eventually accept the reservation. They then insisted I pay an additional non-refundable fee (explained as some form of “insurance” because the booking had been transferred). This came to around £70, and it was not a deposit. I paid it because I didn’t feel I had much choice at that point, but it did leave me feeling taken advantage of. Because of all this, I didn’t feel fully comfortable during my stay and chose not to dine at the hotel, using it mainly as a base instead. On a positive note, the location is excellent — close to the station and directly opposite a beautiful temple. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable. I also experienced noise issues, being woken very early on two mornings by what sounded like heavy furniture being moved around.
