Modern and clean hotel with a hot spring at the top floor (free for hotel guests). It's around 5 minutes walk from Kyoto station. I enjoyed the traditional Japanese breakfast too. It's like eating fine dining for breakfast where they serve you a set of many small dishes. There's also a table in the breakfast area where you can help yourself to juice, bread, vege salad, yoghurt, rice/porridge and miso soup. I love their potato salad. We stayed for two nights in the Corner double room that was Japanese style with tatami flooring. Room was nice and cosy with a comfortable double bed, TV (only one English channel BBC that has Japanese translation at certain hours), a mini fridge, in-room safe deposit box and an air purifier. Aircon was nice and cool and wifi speed was fast in our room. We were given 2 complimentary bottles of mineral water daily in our room. There's also 2 sets of Japanese yukatas, a small pouch and small towels on our bed upon check-in to our room. Yukata is for you to wear, pouch is for your clothes or personal belongings and remember to bring along the small towels when you go to the onsen hot spring on the 8th flloor. There are no towels provided at the onsen. Bring your own small towel from the room. There is also slippers the door to change into once you enter your hotel room. You can wear this to the onsen. Hot spring timing is from 6.30-9.30am and 3pm to midnight. We went there everyday of my stay in the hotel. It was good to relax your muscles in the onsen after a long day of sightseeing. I really enjoyed the hot spring. There are 2 baths - one indoor and one outdoor. And sometimes (I think in the morning), the hotel would alternate the baths for male and female. So check the sign before entering. Staff were friendly and helpful and could speak English. Check-in and out was fast. There are 3 to 4 convenience stores near to the hotel. There's Isetan department store with food court upstairs and many restaurants at the nearby Porta that is located in front of Kyoto station. Though the hotel is not near any tourist attractions, you can take easily take train or bus from Kyoto station. We chose to stay near Kyoto station so that it is easier to travel to other parts of Japan, like Osaka (30 minutes train away). Here's some directions how to go to Kyoto Hot spring Hotel Kyoto (based on our experience as we had trouble finding it) : if you're coming from Kyoto station, exit the station and take the escalator down to street level. Coming down the escalator, you will see Porta Dining in front of you. Turn left and walk towards Bic Camera. Once you pass Bic Camera, turn right. Walk past APA hotel. A few more steps and you will see a 8 storey building which is Hatoya hot spring hotel. Hope this helps! Overall we enjoyed our stay in this hotel and will definintely come back again.
