“Great stay”
A beautiful Ryokan in the heart of the old town with the friendliest staff. They were very helpful and it felt like a true japanese experience in a beautiful setting

“Spent some nights in old Kyoto sleeping on the matted ground ”
This is precisely as advertised. A traditional place full of high touch courtesy, but where a Westerner like me feels appropriately lost. I came with the David Bowie lyrics (see title) in my head. And I loved it in every way. I see many reasons to come back

“Beautiful accommodations with welcoming staff”
Sakanoue was a beautiful ryokan with gorgeous rooms, a lovely garden, and welcoming staff who created a wonderful experience. This was my first time in a ryokan and I definitely want to go back. “Charm in the Gion”
Wonderful rooms. Perfect location in the heart of the Gion. Full of charm. This is a well priced ryokan. My room was perfect in every way. I had one of the rooms with Western beds. That said, everything else fit the classic ryokan script. Many ryokan offer dinners. Not the case here, which … more

“Holiday with friends”
Great service and awesome location, sleeping on the thin mats not the best but overall a great tradition Japanese experience, cute internal gardens. Place was super clean and staff were extremely helpful and went out of there way to make sure you were happy, very pricy.
