It was my first time staying at a ryokan so I came with no expectations / comparison. I highly recommend it for summer period. We had kaiseki dinner by the river, followed by maiko dance (the maiko comes round for photos too & spoke a little bit of English so expect limited interaction). I particularly loved the part where they turned off all the lights for about 15mins for you to view fireflies!! Not just a few specks of light but continuous blinking lights everywhere.. it was amazing to view them without light pollution. Our room was jap style & I loved that it smelled of tatami mats. Our room didn’t come with a private bathroom/tub but I’m actually glad about that because we went for the 45min private onsen which turned out to be really spacious & has a stunning view that overlooks the mountain/forest, plus a retractable roof to see the sky (2700Yen & slots available from 7am till 10pm). The only downside that I can think of is the late check in & early check out (the shuttle bus reaches ryokan around ~3:30pm for check in n departs 10:20am for check out). N it’s true u can hear noisy neighbors but I believe most folks r considerate. To me, these are small nuances that will not tarnish the awesome 1 night experience that we had :)

Stayed one night at this property and wasn't disappointed. We were upgraded to a big room where we could sleep four persons comfortably. To help other travellers who may consider this property; 1) both the kaiseki dinner and morning breakfast were served in the dinning room on the ground floor; 2) there are 2 public onsen baths - one for males and one for females. You don't have to pay for the use of them; 3) there are 2 private onsen baths situated after a flight of stairs and their roofs can be drawn back. These 2 private baths are chargeable by the hour. 4) the ryokan provides 2-way transfer from a nearby train station to the property. But take note the morning shuttle from the property starts at 9.20am. I must commend Mr Yamamoto at the front desk (hope I got his name correct) for his patience and resourcefulness to advise me to re-route my shinkansen timing to Tokyo. He even wrote the instruction for changes in Japanese for me to show the staff at the JR station. Only minor comments: there are 2 windows in my room and one of them overlooked a construction area and my room had strong food smell despite the staff told me that all meals were served in the dining hall. Suggest that the ryokan should refresh the room.
