“If in Kyoto this is a must”

This was my first visit to Japan and first stay in ryokan. It is beautiful, private with excellent amenities including lounge room, in suite bath. Staff was very nice and helpful. Food to die for. Strongly recommend

We spent three nights at Muromachi Yutone as part of a Japan trip towards the end of the cherry blossom season. This was one of the most memorable stays of our journey. We absolutely loved this ryokan for the delicious chef made food, the kindness and hospitality of the staff and the meditative atmosphere. Here are 5 things that we loved about this ryokan: 1. The food. Lovingly and skillfully prepared by the chef and served graciously by his wife, this was one of the highlights of our trip. The Kyoto-style kaiseki, and especially the Kyotamba Hirai beef special, was artfully presented and something we looked forward to every day. We also loved the Japanese breakfasts and they gave us the warmth and sustenance for a day of sightseeing. 2. The home away from home feeling. Once you enter the traditional wooden doors from the outside you feel like you are coming home. The cozy library lounge, books and the complimentary snacks were additional features that made us want to stay and enjoy the facilities. 3. The garden. The small landscaped Japanese garden changes with the seasons and added to the serene feeling. We spent quiet moments just being enveloped in the atmosphere and watching the leaves blow in the wind. 4. The location. This was a short ride (or manageable walk) from the Kyoto station. There was also a closer local railway station that we used to visit many of the attractions in the city (which are spread apart so this location worked well for us). 5. The staff. Loved the kindness, attentiveness and helpfulness of the staff, especially the chef, his wife and the people at the front desk. Bottom line: Muromachi Yutone offers much more than a place to stay in historic Kyoto -- it offers a restorative experience in an intimate setting. If you are looking for exceptional chef-made food and a hospitable and peaceful retreat in Kyoto, this ryokan is a gem.

A lovely traditional Japanese accommodation option that really feels like a home, very quiet and quaint with impeccable and very friendly service. The inner court garden is a small oasis and has a small reading room where you can sit comfortably while enjoying the garden or a book. Food is traditional Japanese and very good with an intimate setting for both dinner and breakfast. A big plus for the traditional robes you can borrow or buy during your stay. Rooms are clean and spacious with a traditional Japanese bath and design. I’d love to come back. The only down side is that the location is a bit of a walk from most places or a short taxi ride. It’s also a very quiet place with paper thin walls, so don’t bring any rowdy kids.
