When I was in Kyoto for 3 days in 2023, I decided to stay at a random hotel. I was stunned by the cleanliness and the support of the front desk as well. The room was spacious which was unusual to me, also it is not far from the train station. The only thing I didn't like was the breakfast, it was quite mediocre. I would stay there once again if I decided to go to Kyoto again.

I stayed here for a few nights when I went to Kyoto last June. I was torn between this and another branch, but I'm glad I chose this coz it's very close to a lot of things. I got the double bed room coz it's the only one available when I booked, bed is very comfortable. The room is really nice and cleaned and maintained daily, with the shower separate from the toilet, which has a heated seat. There's ample space for your luggage. The TV can be used not just to watch movies/shows, but you can also use it to monitor if the laundry machine is in use. The hotel has other amenities like microwave oven to heat up your food, and laundry/dryer. Tip on the laundry machine, better split your laundry in smaller batches coz the dryer takes a lot of time to dry out stuff. It's better if your clothes are those quick drying fabrics. Use the laundry late at night or early morning so you won't have to worry about busy hours. They have vending machines available too. Unfortunately, there's no water dispenser (oddly enough there's an ice dispenser). They have toiletries available for you to take at the ground floor. Staff are nice and accommodating. I had my SIM delivered to the hotel and they received it on my behalf. They can assist with manual checking if the auto-checking machines don't work properly. They are able to communicate in english too. Breakfast is very simple from the cafe at the ground floor, just egg and toast and drink. I usually add sausage for extra Yen just to make my breakfast a bit fuller. The hotel is walking distance to the Tozai line, the Shinkogyoku shopping street and also the Nishiki Market. It's also close to the Gear Non Verbal theater (this one is a must do) and the Maikoya Tea Ceremony). It's a bit of a walk to the Hanku Kyoto, Karasuma and Keihan lines, maybe around 10-15 minutes. Honestly, I really recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in Kyoto. I will definitely book here again when I go to Kyoto again in the future.

Prince Smart Inn was perfect for our trip to Kyoto! The location was a short walk from restaurants, convenience stores, shopping, and you could easily walk to the station to reach other areas of Kyoto. The hotel is aesthetically pleasing with quirky decorations. Check-in was simple, and if you needed help the lovely staff spoke great English and were able to help. Bonus points for the luggage storage after our stay. Check-in at our next hotel wasn't for a few hours, but instead of lugging our suitcases around, we were able to lock them up for a few hours for free. Room 520 was one of our favorite hotel rooms on our trip to Japan. It was large enough to move around; uncommon in other hotels in Japan, & our suitcases could easily slide underneath the raised bed. There are not many amenities in the room itself, with the exception of the hair dryer. However, the amenity bar downstairs had anything you could need during your stay such as razors, toothbrushes, body towels, etc. We looked forward to taking showers in this hotel every night - the water pressure was perfect, and I loved the smell of the shampoo and body wash. If you are looking for a bathtub - Prince Smart Inn does not have them, unfortunately. The bed was firm in this hotel, but the pillows and blankets were plush. During our trip, I noticed that Japanese hotel rooms lack outlets, but not here. There were plenty of outlets, and USB plugs, even on the bed frame. Our room was a much needed escape after walking 20,000 plus steps a day. The only downside to this hotel is that the complimentary breakfast is not worth it. It includes a cup of soup, one egg, and a couple pieces of bread. There are so many good restaurants in the area, I recommend you save a bit of money on the room, and book it without breakfast. Get out, explore, and eat something delicious nearby. Overall, I would come back here in a heartbeat.
