The Sotestsu Kyoto-Hachijoguchi was my second Sotetsu hotel in Japan and did not disappoint. I stayed two nights and had a comfort double room - it was one of the more spacious rooms I stayed in whilst visiting Japan. Everything looks to be very new and well kept. You can request to have your room made up every day if you wish. Staff downstairs were very helpful and spoke good English. They can arrange luggage forwarding for a fee if you want to avoid lugging suitcases yourself back to Tokyo and they did this for my friend which was fantastic. They had complimentary umbrellas you could borrow for inclement weather which was so helpful. The coin laundry was the most superior I have seen in my time in Japan. The amenities bar at reception was also comprehensive. The train station is a short 3 minute walk away and the Avanti department store is 2 minutes away. The train station has many excellent restaurants and also a McDonalds if you're craving a late night junk food fix. Nearby are multiple convenience stores if you want to self cater, there is also a restaurant downstairs for breakfast (we didn't eat there though). Location was also convenient when getting around Kyoto. Overall, a fantastic stay.

It is briefly <5 mins walk to Kyoto Stn. But as you know the station itself is huge hence you have to still find you own way to the train line/ platform. It is briefly <5 mins walk to Kyoto Stn. But as you know the station itself is huge hence you have to still find you own way to the train line/ platform. You could get your room amenities from the hotel lobby with complete supply incl facial mask. The breakfast is a local kyoto style cuisine with daily different menu and we enjoyed so much. We got a connecting room for 4 of us which is huge (3 double beds).. It is just behind Avanti Mall and walking distance to Aeon with Lawson convenient shop just a stone’s throw away. Highly recommended!

Nice, clean hotel with a good location. My room was small but clean which I fully expected. Personally, if I returned to Kyoto I would probably try another hotel. Nice, clean hotel with a good location. My room was small but clean which I fully expected. Personally, if I returned to Kyoto I would probably try another hotel. My saying that is not a reflection on the hotel or the staff which was wonderful. My writing that has to do with the breakfast. It is definitely skewed towards their Asian clientele which I fully understand if that is the majority of your clients. I did not care for the offerings on the buffet so that is why I would not return, but if you like such a breakfast I recommend this hotel 100%.

“Basic but clean. Good if you just need a base.”

Convenient location for Kyoto station. Rooms are small but clean. Nowhere to unpack so deffo travel light. Tiny bathroom but again clean enough. Breakfast was basic. Very limited range. Sterile dining room. Wouldn’t stay more than a couple of nights.
