We had a wonderful experience during our recent stay at the Grand Mercure Hotel this spring. Our room, located on a high floor, offered a lovely view of the water, which I had specifically requested, and I was delighted with the outcome. As it was our first visit to the hotel, we were warmly welcomed at the front desk. The complimentary drinks and snack lounge in the evening provided excellent service, although it was a bit crowded, and there were not enough chairs to accommodate all guests. Despite this, I believe it was a thoughtful addition to the guest experience. The spa facilities were beautifully designed, and I particularly appreciated the high-quality face moisturisers provided. Additionally, the morning buffet featured an extensive selection of food options, which greatly enhanced our stay. One area for improvement is the smoking area, which is situated behind the automatic main entrance. The proximity to the entrance made it challenging to avoid the smell of smoke upon entering, detracting from the otherwise pleasant atmosphere of the hotel. It would be beneficial to relocate the smoking area further away from the entrance to preserve the overall ambience. Overall, our experience in Japan was exceptional, and I would strongly recommend this hotel. I look forward to returning in the future.

We had the pleasure of staying at Grand Mercure Beppu Bay in one of their newly renovated rooms, which was both lovely and spacious. The fresh and modern design made it a comfortable retreat, even though we didn't spend much time in the hotel itself. The dinner buffet was a highlight of our stay, especially the wagyu dishes, which were absolutely delightful and showcased the hotel's dedication to high-quality dining experiences. A special thank-you goes to Dolmo Ghalan, who provided exceptional assistance in helping us figure out rates prior to our stay. Her support made the booking process smooth and stress-free. Thank you, Grand Mercure Beppu Bay, for a pleasant and memorable stay. We hope to return for a longer visit in the future!

“Buffet is the best thing here”

Having been to multiple similar star-grade onsen hotels in Kyushu so far, this would be somewhere average with the others: not particularly outstanding, not bad either. We loved the buffet dinner - large spacious hall, large diversity of offerings with special credit going to the (1). dessert station, (2). Ramen station (they even have two timers to help you gauge the appropriate cooking time!?!) and the (3). wagyu beef station (for the latter note that there is a DIY pot and a prepared-on-the-spot segment - my suggestion is just queue for a short while at the serviced station!). This buffet was probably the highlight of this resort. Onsen itself was okay - a bit cramped but above average (at least it’s not a mere tub in some hotels!). Nice complimentary snacks and beverages at reception. What I fail to comprehend is why they don’t want us wearing our yukatas in the hotel lobby or restaurant - allowable place outside your room is the onsen itself.

Im currently staying at Grand Mercure Bay View Hotel and had a generally comfortable experience. One of the highlights is definitely the room size—it’s impressively spacious, which makes a big difference, especially if you’re staying more than a night. There’s plenty of room to relax and unpack without feeling cramped. However, the buffet dinner was a bit of a letdown. While the food itself is decent, the selection lacks variety. I stayed for a second night and found that they served exactly the same dishes as the night before. It takes away from the overall experience, especially if you’re dining in-house multiple nights—it starts to feel repetitive and a little underwhelming. I wanted to call the reception for a enquiry but the phone in the room doesn’t indicate the number to dial, I tried several numbers but none work, this is crucial for emergency. Overall, great for comfort and space, but the dining experience could definitely be improved with more variety.
