“Interesting stay in a traditional hotel”

What an interesting stay. The hotel is in a very scenic nook in this otherwise ghost town. We stayed in the Fall and the Fall colours were stunning. The hotel is nice kept up...but a little eery to think how busy this area once was and how empty it is now. Post 90s crash, post nuclear fall out and flooding - the area is pretty desolate. But for one night - what an interesting place to be. The staff were kind and our room was big with a great view over the river valley. Everything is old but works. A little dusty but it suits the overall atmosphere of the town. There is truly only one restaurant in the town and it closes at 4 - so you eat your dinner at the hotel - they have some vending machines in their basement that we also hit up for some late night snacks. We stayed in their traditional Japanese room with tatami mats. Close to the train station - this hotel provided our base while we travelled to see Niko Toshogu shrine area (45 minute train).

A very pleasant stay outside tokyo for my first real holiday in tokyo and nikko. Though I have been to tokyo for work trips and other kyushu places for holidays, this place felt quite similar as being a little dated, traditional. It is one stop away from the more popular station of kinugawa Onsen station, it is at kinugawa koen station, just a 3 minutes walk outside the station. In door onsen and open air ones split by gender with onsen usage guide in english. The staff are generally friendly and tried to make you comfortable with little english. Small miscommunication happened. You need to check the train timetable and connections to Tobu nikko where the shrines and buses to the other sights like ryuzu falls are. We have 4 day pass which you need to the local train and buses, and the express train ticket also required the base ticket which is the pass. A little out of the way, but we love it from being quiet and also out of the autumn red leaves peak season, it is still quite full. The dinners were very nice generally with 8-9 courses though felt a little rushed and sometimes the grilled fish is a little cold. Most people go to the onsen before dinner which is last served at 7pm and you cannot pick your dishes and preferences, you eat what you are served which has eggs, fish, chicken, beef depending on what they get, no food allergy will be catered for.

立地は、鬼怒川公園駅からゆっくりと歩いても5～6分位と良いのだが、周辺に飲食店などは少なく、コンビニ等は隣の鬼怒川温泉駅まで行かなくてはないらしいのでロケーション自体良くはない。 　設備などは手入れをされているようで、気持ち良く利用出来ました。　妻は「温泉の泉質が合っているのか、普段は日に1度も入ればよいのに、露天・内風呂共に気持ち良くって何度も入ってしまった」と非常に満足した様子！　ただ、男性用脱衣場は少しカビ臭さがありました。 　夕食の際の従業員の接客態度が本当に気持ち良く、親を連れてリピートしたいと思える施設でした！ The location is good, about 5-6 … more

The facilities seem to be well maintained and we were able to use them comfortably. My wife was very satisfied, saying "Maybe it was the quality of the hot spring that suited me, but both the open-air and indoor baths were so good that I ended up going in several times, even though I usually only need to go in once a day." However, the men's changing room smelled a bit moldy. The staff's attitude during dinner was really pleasant, and it was a facility that I would like to return to with my parents!
