My partner and I selected the Vessel Inn Takadanobaba primarily for its proximity to transit, and it turned out to be a great discovery. We stayed at the hotel from Nov 15 to Nov 24. ​The Highlights (A Gem) ​The hotel excels in the areas that truly matter for a Tokyo stay: ​Location/Transit: Accessibility is phenomenal. You can take the elevator directly down to Exit 4 of the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line, and the main Takadanobaba Station is immediately across the road. This setup made travel easy, with most destinations averaging only 30 minutes. ​Local Amenities: Being next to the station means instant access to countless restaurants, convenience stores, and shopping centers. We skipped the hotel breakfast entirely due to the abundance of great, inexpensive local options. ​Room Size: Our twin room (2101) was a surprisingly spacious 23 square meters. It was well-utilized, featuring a fantastic movable side table that functioned perfectly as a work or dining space. ​Service: The staff was genuinely friendly and warm. They were welcoming yet professional, striking a perfect balance between helpfulness and privacy. ​Minor Observations ​Lighting/Pillows: The room was slightly dark. Also, only one small pillow was provided per person, which seems common in Japan but may not suit all travelers. Crucial Security Concern (Room for Improvement) ​The main reason we cannot give a 5/5 rating is a significant security issue: our room number was clearly printed on the key card. This is a genuine safety risk, particularly for solo travelers. Anyone who finds or steals the card knows exactly where to go. We strongly urge hotel management to stop displaying room numbers on key cards immediately. ​Verdict ​While it's not a "trendy" design hotel, the Vessel Inn is a fantastic choice, scoring top marks for location, room size, and warm service. Highly recommended, with the caveat that the key card issue needs fixing. ​

Pros: 1) The location is very convenient, there’s exit from the hotel connecting to the railway and if taking JR just a min of walk to the station 2) lots of convenience stores nearby like family mart, drugstore, DONKI etc and there is shopping mall called Big Box right opposite to the hotel with game stores there too 3) the staff are helpful with exceptionally good English, so no communication problem (only once missed out my request of room cleaning though) 4) the breakfast is amazingly great, enough of varieties from Japanese to Western choices and the quality is good 5) there are lots of amenities provided like hair mask, mask, cleanser, toner etc, you don’t have to worry if forgot to bring anything 6) nice to have microwave in each room, very convenient Cons: 1) the room size is compact, if you have two big luggages, not much space left in the room 2) bath and toilet are not separated, and not enough shelf or hangers in the bathroom 3) there’s only one small table in the room, if you buy takeaway to eat in your room there’s not much space indeed

Our stay in this hotel was pretty average. - Staff was polite, although we had a bit of a hard time communicating with them in English about our reservation (in a very minor way -- everything always worked out in the end). - The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. It was extremely small, however, and we just having a piece of luggage there meant that we could barely move around the space. - The breakfast buffet is very nice, with a wide variety of things to choose from. The food was tasty and the space was never too crowded. - There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants around. Takadanobaba station is right there across the street, which is very convenient. - There's apparently a single clothing iron available for guests to borrow. My partner requested it as he had a work commitment on a certain day, but reception just kept saying another guest had it despite us calling at different times to chase up. Seemed like they don't make guests aware that they should return the iron ASAP once done using it (or else contact them to request it back when another guest asks for it), because by the time they called us to say it was available again 2 days had passed and the work commitment had come and gone. - They have a shelf full of amenities (freebies) for the guests. There's a lot of stuff there -- face masks, toothbrushes, etc.
