Location was fantastic and central on the reserve. Easy to get to from the main highway passing through Ngare gate. Rooms were spacious with all the facilities in the rooms you would expect. Loved the little private pool attached to the rooms. Perfect Value for money for a weekend away. Cleanliness. Rooms were cleaned to a high standard in the mornings and at the evening turndown service. A few little critters in the rooms but nothing you shouldn’t expect when living in the wilderness. For an all inclusive vacation the food selection and quality of the food was very good. Enjoyed every single meal. All the staff throughout the hotel were fantastic and very accommodating. Big shoutout to Denis and Francis for looking after us during our stay. The massage we had was of high quality compared to other places I’ve stayed so also a big shoutout to Rachel for her service. Will definitely be recommending to family and friends and will certainly be coming again in the near future.

We stayed at Surana Buffalo Springs for 4 nights as a family of 6 spanning 3 generations, and we honestly had an exceptional experience from start to finish. The lodge itself is stunning — beautifully designed and perfectly integrated into the landscape, with incredible views overlooking the river bend. During the short African afternoon rains the scenery became even more magical. Watching elephants come daily to the river directly below the lodge was unforgettable, and the infinity pool provided the perfect place to take it all in. The rooms were extremely spacious, comfortable and thoughtfully designed, with private plunge pools that were very welcome in the Samburu heat. The food was outstanding — genuinely some of the best we have had anywhere, and certainly far beyond what you would expect in the middle of the bush. The quality, presentation and variety would not feel out of place in Nairobi’s top restaurants. The team were also incredibly accommodating of our family’s different dietary requirements, including vegetarian options. A special mention must go to Dennis in the restaurant, who looked after us exceptionally well throughout our stay with warmth, professionalism and genuine care. The service across the lodge was outstanding and made the whole trip feel both luxurious and personal. Surana created memories for our whole family that we will never forget, and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Samburu or Buffalo Springs.

A real positive is that you don’t see Surana Buffalo Springs until you’re a minute or two away. They have done an excellent job at blending in with the landscape and so there’s a huge wow-factor when you arrive at this hidden paradise. We were warmly welcomed by Stephen and his team and shown to the most beautiful accommodation with river view and plunge pool. The food was the best of our whole trip (we stayed at six different places) and every meal had multiple options of high quality, delicious dishes. Throughout our time, we were brilliantly looked after by James who was attentive but never intrusive. One lunchtime, we saw elephants down by the river so the staff quickly covered our food so we could go and watch them before returning later after the wildlife show! All the staff were very friendly including Junior who worked at the bar and everyone we came across. Other facilities include a very efficient laundry service, a lovely pool with stunning views of the surrounding area and even an evening escort back to your room. We had the most amazing stay here and hope to return one day. We highly recommend a trip to Buffalo Springs.

We had a look at this lodge a year or so ago and decided to give it a try now. Buffalo Springs is a hot place, yet you would expect to be able to cool off just a wee bit when you come to a lodge. Surana is a very beautiful, modern lodge. Perfectly situated not far from Ewaso Ngiro river. However, whoever designed it forgot where the sun comes from and somehow miscalculated the volume of the place and placed the roofs evidently too low. Result: wherever you are, in the restaurant or your room, the heat is oppressive and it’s rather stuffy too. We are used to the African heat and thrive in it. That’s why we come here on regular basis. Yet Surana, though otherwise perfect, is a bit much in this respect. So on one hand the looks which are hard to match, pleasing layout, perfect service, excellent food and great facilities and on the other something missed in practicalities which could have easily been avoided given more careful consideration.
