In all honesty, the owners of Diamonds Malindi should look into renovating the rooms as the property itself has the potential but lacks the face-lift needed in order to keep operations running smoothly and to remain competitive in the realm of hospitality along the coast. There were too many staff in training when I arrived which greatly affected my initial welcome. I'm not sure if it was because of low season but proper customer service training is needed as I found myself often finding out about activities and amenities that I was not made aware of during the initial tour of the resort at the last minute amongst other issues. When I first arrived, I ran into a few issues regarding my room and the service I received from the trainees, however, Collins saved my first time experience with Diamonds Malindi as he made sure to pull me aside, listen to my issues, was very empathetic and acted fast in resolving my concerns. I received a premium experience from both him, Victor, and the restaurant staff including Wandina. Overall I'd give my experience a 7/10 and hope things turn around if I decide to stay there again.

After a long flight and a 3 hour drive from the airport, our room wasn't ready when we arrived mid afternoon. Even though we could sit in the bar area or tea room and were served refreshments, we got our room key after over 2 hours of hanging around. Upon our return from a 4 day safari, the same thing happened, another 2 hour+ wait for our key and when we finally got our room, there was only a trickle of water coming from the shower, even if it was dealt with rapidly, it shouldn't happen. Having said that, the rooms are quite spacious and the beds very comfortable. A huge problem is the smell coming from the bathroom drains which is very unpleasant. A big shout out to the catering team who are friendly,organised & efficent. The food is quite varied and tasty. The drinks are of excellent quality and the bar staff know what they're doing. The gardens are wonderfully kept. Unfortunately there is a sad lack of sunbeds & parasols around the various pool areas. However the whole resort could do with a complete overhaul, from the drainage system to an efficient check-in system while not forgetting the small details such as the missing or broken tiles & fountains in the spa area. It wouldn't take much to upgrade & refresh the whole hotel. Communication between the different services of the hotel could be improved. When we checked out of the hotel, we ended up waiting over 30 minutes for our fellow travellers with whom we were sharing transport to the airport only to have it confirmed that they had checked out very early the same morning and it was Diamonds reception who had booked their early transport to the airport and who were supposed to cancel their later transport. A small detail certainly but incidents like that shouldn't happen. Thanks to Gabriel for his advice and his help in sorting out our safari. We did enjoy our stay at Diamonds,despite the annoying details which the staff more than made up for with their friendliness, although Diamonds would not be our first choice for our next visit to Kenya
