“Excellent location and a budget stay”

We stayed here for a couple of days. It is in the 8th floor of a building on Gran via 44 address, the best location of Madrid. Literally everything is at a walking distance from this place. Shopping, attractions, restaurants all are near. We didn't even use public transport during our stay in Madrid. Coming to the room, it is a simple and basic one and it was okay for the price we got it for.

“If you just want a bed to sleep in in a clean place in the centre of Madrid this is the place to go”

I've had mixed reviews about this place on my stay. When originally booking the rooms I had made a request to check in around 11am and 12 noon (this was due to our flight being into MAD Airport at 10am). Upon arrival to the hotel at 12 noon to be exact we were greeted by a small lady (who has no English whatsoever) who did manage to tell us in very broken English that check in was at 2pm. I had told her we made a request to check in early and showed our booking with this request (as she said she had no English). She then proceeding to check us in when this was shown to her. When she was checking us in and she wanted to tell us something had to be done through Google Translate as we had no Spanish... When we were given the room key and shown to our room, she told us she did not start the cleaning yet and to come back after 2pm and the room would be clean (this is something you don't want to hear if you have been traveling since 11pm the night before and have gotten no sleep). So we had to go away for over 2 hours to go back and rest. If you are paying for the hotel when you get there and only paid one night up front, keep an eye on your credit card/bank statements as she could easily try charge extra for your stay (I only recently found out she had taken an extra €40 off of me and I did not know this at the time, I am now in the process of trying to get back that €40 and getting nowhere)... Other than those hiccups, we had a pleasant stay. The room was basic, with a bed, wardrobe, tv, toilet, shower and sink (no safe if you are looking to keep your passports in the hotel) which is what you want if you just want somewhere clean to sleep. Rooms were cleaned if you put out the sign saying you wanted it cleaned otherwise they were left alone. If you depend a lot on the free WiFi, than this is not the place to go, for the whole week we were there, we were only able to get onto the internet one day without any interruptions, every other day, when we tried to get onto the WiFi, we could only get on for 10 minutes the most and would loose the connection again for at least 30 minutes to an hour and would get connection again for another 10 minutes. If you are any bit clostraphobic, stay away from the two elevators.. It is an old building so the elevators can only hold a maximum of 4 people at most. It is constantly in use so if you don't mind the exercise, then you would be walking up 8 flights of stairs... (every floor is a different hotel)... Other than that, our stay was pleasant. It is in the centre of Madrid, no need to use any of the public transport. Everything is in walking distance as you are staying on the Gran Via (the main street) and walking distance of Puerta Del Sol (the main square).

We had a room overlooking the street which was amazing although I noticed multiple rooms did not have this view so it's a bit luck of the draw. The beds were really hard, to the point that I slept in my sleeping bag on top of the blankets so that the springs weren't digging into my hip. We did have a private bathroom, which was. Great advantage considering the room was so cheap. The major disadvantage is that it's up 8flights of stairs, there is an elevator but it's old and fits a maximum of four people. It is almost always in use as well because there are hostels on every floor of this building.
