Firstly the hostel is in a good location and is very reasonably priced which is great for anyone looking to stop over in Madrid. The beds are also really good as well. With that said the staff are very much lacking in social skills. *They don't take your passport or booking when checking in to use as a reference. Instead they'll ask you 4-5 times what your name is while they scroll through looking for it. Often people had to point out their name on the list because they couldn't understand. *As a follow on to this anyone who speaks English the first thing they ask when they hear English is 'do you speak Spanish?' because they'd rather speak Spanish. If people spoke Spanish they'd start the process of checking in with hola rather than hello. *They came into my room several times to open windows, turn off lights etc while I was in there. If it's not your room and you're not occupying it then why open a window and let a cold breeze in or turn off the light on someone who is reading? *They were absent from the check in desk for long periods of time. If you've got people arriving anytime from 12pm-6pm when most travellers would arrive then they shouldn't have to stand around and wait upwards of 10 minutes until someone appears.

“Great value, friendly, clean accommodation in central Madrid”

Really like this place and would happily stay there again. Its basic, clean accommodation and the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. They make you feel very welcome to their hostal and to Madrid. Its in a great location between Chueca and Gran Via Metro station.

We were stayed in the Rio Mino during the start of October 2013. Both Eladio and Jessica were excellent hosts. Neither spoke English but luckily one of us spoke French, which they also spoke. When we arrived they warned us about the dangers of the city and that we needed to keep our bags close, it really showed that they cared about their guests. This caring manner continued throughout the rest of our stay. Our rooms were cleaned every day and the bathrooms were likewise cleaned on a very strict schedule. As well there was a grocery store down the street that allowed us to buy all of our meals without having to pay the insane prices that Spanish restaurants charge. One of the issues with the place was the noise from across the street. We left on a Saturday and there were people partying until 6 in the morning. The glass doors do little to shield the noise coming from the street. The balcony windows did have 2 sets of shutters that we never closed so that may have solved our problem.

My sister and I stayed here last time in Madrid. We go to Madrid a lot so we know the place well and have stayed in different places and would definitively come back to Rio Mino, only in summer. We were in a specially cold march, and the heater worked during the day and not during the nights which is really weird and not functional at all. So we kind of froze in the room. Other than that, its a beautiful building, nice rooms (some with balconies) and great neighborhood. The family that works there is very sweet.
