“Good stay, prefer to stay longer”

Good location, beautiful view for day and night, the room is big enough for two, there are many choices for the breakfast buffet

We stayed three nights in an executive suite. We chose this hotel for its location and the fact that it had a pool and gym and the reviews of the buffet breakfast were good. We stayed three nights in an executive suite. We chose this hotel for its location and the fact that it had a pool and gym and the reviews of the buffet breakfast were good. The good: -Great location for exploring Melaka. A nice walk along the river to Jonker Street, which was lovely. Melaka really is an interesting place and the history is phenomenal. -The room was big - a separate sitting area, dressing area and bedroom. Two balconies and two toilets. This was unexpected and a nice surprise. -The bed was very comfy. -The views from our room were great -The wifi worked well and we were able to do screen mirroring from our device, which was awesome. -The breakfast buffet was very impressive - heaps of choice! The not so good: -The Swiss Garden Hotel has seen better days - it's tired, and it was pretty obvious that it needs some serious maintenance. There was evidence of mould and water leakage in our room's wet area, possibly reaching as far as the dressing area outside the bathroom under the floor tiles (although it made the floor tiles in the dressing area delightfully cool underfoot!). -The air con, which, although effective, left us with sinus-type symptoms, which might suggest mould in the air ducts. Not good if you have respiratory issues of any sort(we didn't, but still felt the effects). -The staff didn't seem overly happy or attentive. Information on check-in was minimal. Apparently, we had a couple of free trips on the water taxi, but no info was provided. There was actually minimal information about the hotel provided. Our bad - we should have asked more questions. -The noise level at night, in particular, was not great. Loud footsteps were often heard through the ceiling, and the noise from street level travelled up to our room, making us think we could have been there. This was surprising as we were pretty high up. -The balconies didn't appear to have been cleaned prior to our check-in - used cigarette butts and ash were present, which called into question how clean the room actually was. - The restaurant at the top of the hotel was closed, which was a shame. -If you want a quiet retreat and premium experience in an executive suite, this is NOT the hotel for you. Heaps of families and kids. We gave up on the pool area as it was so incredibly noisy and the mould stains on the plastic outdoor lounges did not make sitting on them enticing at all. All in all, this was an adequate stay, but we would choose another option next time.
