Spent a night at Scapes with colleagues. The road (about 1km) from Swiss Garden / Geo was windy, full of potholes (construction road) and all dark at night. Require to travel by car to get to the shoplots in Midhills. Buffet breakfast was fair. I prefer to have tea bags of various tea instead of tea from the hot dispenser. The room was spacious and I love they provided two queen sized beds (instead of singles). However, sound proofing was bad. Gym and swimming pool were available. One pet peeve of mine is that the toilet paper always runs out when I visited their lobby toilets. Had reminded the staff, however, none was replenished. Parking was free.

Was at this property for 1 night and my review as follows: 1) Hotel Location It is about 5 to 10 minutes drive along a poor condition road from Swiss Garden Gohtong Jaya due to many constructions on-going. It is located inside from the main road. So if you do not have a vehicle, this hotel may not be a good choice. 2) Hotel Parking and Lobby This hotel is part of an apartment. They have dedicated parking for hotel guests and it is free. Parking is spacious and ok. 3) Check in Experience Check in was fast. Lobby area is ok. 4) Room on 2nd floor Room size is ok for the price. Room is modern and clean. Shower area is ok too with powerful water pressure. Only thing is the wall partition from the shower area is a bit see-thru from the bedroom area (alto there is forest leaf painting on the wall). So if you are travelling with someone you are not closed with, this can be a problem. Room noise insulation is poor. Can clearly hear noise/conversation/baby crying from the next room. Our room facing the pool and can also see clearly another room. So we have to draw our curtain closed all the time. Not an issue anyway for us. Anyway, as long as the room is priced about RM150 with free breakfast, i think it is acceptable for the quality and location. 5) Buffet Breakfast Breakfast selection is limited for a 4 star property but for the price we are paying, it is acceptable. The egg station is not visible in my opinion. There are about 5 to 6 hot dishes offering (the usual nasi and noodle with some lauk and a pau steamer). The fruit and salad station is ok. Pastry selection is also ok. There is an ice cream fridge too but sadly the ice cream quality is poor. Hopefully they can change to a better brand. But overall, the breakfast is acceptable if eat for 1 time. If have to repeat eating the breakfast everyday, then will be very boring as the spread is not wide. 6) Facilities Pool is ok and heated too. But a bit too crowded especially since this is a shared facilities with the apartment. 7) Environment during our stay, we dont find the air quality to be fresh due to many on going construction but generally the air quality at Gohtong Jaya area is not clean or cold. Overall, only choose this hotel if you have a vehicle and the price is about Rm150 with breakfast. If not, i dont think it is worth staying here especially the road leading to the hotel is poor.

Myself and my family consisting of my missus and my two teenaged boys decided to spend the New Year's Eve 2024, at Scapes Hotel in Genting Highlands, after seeing the information about the hotel on agoda. Accordingly, we arrived on 31st Dec 2023 late afternoon at the hotel. The hotel is located not on the top of the hill but rather just a bit above the valley. Premium outlets and the Chinese temple (Chin Swee Cave temple) are nearby, but one needs to go up the winding road to reach them. Our Parking was at the hotel basement and the Check-in itself was swift. The room we were booked in was a "Deluxe Double", meant for 4 adults. The room itself was small, but the two king sized beds in the room, were large enough to accommodate us comfortably. All the standard service items were present in the room. The main issue with the room was the toilet and its door. The bathroom sink drained very slowly and so did the bathroom drain. However, the water was hot in the shower. A nasty surprise further awaited us. To our shock, when my younger son tried to close the bathroom door, the sliding door came off its moorings completely and fell. Luckily for us, it fell away from him, sparing him injury. We called up the reception immediately and they sent in a "technical person" who just placed the sliding door back on its railings. He then remarked that this sort of incidents happen very regularly - from various bathrooms across different hotel rooms! Apparently, it had been happening, ever since the hotel opened but nothing has been changed by the hotel management. For the rest of the time were in the room, we remained cautious of this door, never attempting to close it completely. The night was comfortable enough and we all slept well. Breakfast next morning at the "Lemon 3" restaurant was a bit of a letdown. As we were all strict vegetarians, we had tried speaking to the kitchen staff on the previous evening after checking in, requesting for some vege food, due to our own restrictions. But, the chef the previous evening had simply turned our request down. The lady at the counter asked us to have the available bread or toast for breakfast!! (While traveling in Malaysia, restaurant staff at hotels, even large ones are often insensitive to the needs of their visitors and often respond in a rather crude manner and make no attempt to understand vegetarians). However, chefs at even medium sized hotels in Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka etc are well tuned to the varied food choices of their visitors. So, come morning of the 1st of January 2024, we walked warily into the restaurant and encountered a new chef. I spoke to this person; though initially unwilling, he ultimately agreed to our request and prepared some 'meehoon'. The dish was tepid and lacked any taste whatsoever, so both my sons kept off it. We make did with the available pasties and croissants and some plain rice with daal. I must also mention regarding the approach road to the Scapes hotel. It is located about 1.6 kms away from the main road to Genting. The approach road to the hotel is narrow and filled with potholes. There was a heavy rush following check-out at noon and it took us 45 minutes to negotiate this short stretch of road, as it has only one lane either way. A lot of construction activity is on at this place (Swissotels and Novotel seem to be building hotels here too); so one should expect a poor approach road and the ambience to be disturbed by the construction activity for the next 1-2 years, at least. To my mind allowing such mindless construction activity cutting away the green forests and exchanging it with a concrete jungle seems to defeat the very purpose of coming away from the city for some solitude in the hills. Finally, would we revisit the place? My family did not wish to - for our next visit, for all the reasons mentioned above.
