We are an exclusively shangri la family and we stayed at the shangri la over 5 nights and had a wonderful time. We were travelling with our toddler and he enjoyed his stay. Pros: - Good sized rooms and they offer roll away beds - drinking water and ammenities were provided daily - great kid friendly pools and water park. I love how they had lifesavers at each pool. - great kids activities ( kids play rooms and adventure play area). It was nice to see staff coming in daily to clean and sanitise equipment - food and drink prices were reasonable Cons: - food quality was not as good as the other shangri la we have stayed at - opening hours for the kids playground doesn’t open till 10am. If you have an early riser this meant keeping a toddler busy till it opened. - adventure zone was a really exciting play experience but I found it wasn’t toddler friendly. They did have a small toddler section but felt if my son was a year or two older he would have enjoyed it more. If you have older kids, it’s a perfect play to play. I would stay again

My family stayed at Shangri-La Golden Sands on 31 January 2026 for a short getaway to celebrate my child’s birthday. Unfortunately, our arrival was affected by delays in room readiness and luggage handling, which disrupted our plans and affected the family’s mood, particularly my five-year-old child. Although an apology and complimentary gesture were offered, I declined them as I felt there was no clear justification that addressed the situation from a guest’s perspective. The delay impacted what should have been a smooth, family-friendly arrival and required us to adjust our evening plans. I would like to acknowledge the professionalism of Duty Manager, Mr. Yau, for handling the matter calmly and responsibly. Appreciation is also extended to Mr. Ikhmal at the front desk for helping me with check-in and managing my request, Mr. Faiz for clearly explaining the room preparation delay, and Mr. Khalish, the bellman, for handling my luggage with care and professionalism. Their dedication and professionalism helped make the situation more comfortable as a guest. Overall, the stay felt rather underwhelming, although the location is attractive and suitable as a child-friendly resort. The swimming pools for both adults and children were enjoyable and contributed positively to family time. I also appreciate the housekeeping team for preparing the room with a Murphy bed, simple birthday decorations, and a cake. Self-parking was available, no valet parking was available, but assistance was provided by a buggy car. Breakfast was acceptable but fairly simple, with no signature menu. During this visit, I met Mr. Hayat Basha again, whom I had previously seen performing a snake presentation at another resort. He shared his experience on how to handle venomous snakes, and the sharing was meaningful. This experience highlights the importance of efficient arrival and luggage processes, especially for families with young children. I hope this feedback is received constructively to further improve service consistency. Overall, Shangri-La Golden Sands remains a potential option for family getaways, and I am open to returning.

The Shangri-La Golden Sands is a lovely, child-friendly hotel - perhaps too much so for a mature couple, although there are options to 'escape' the busyness and higher noise levels that comes with small children, by enjoying breakfast at Sigi's Bar and Grill, and by lounging on the lawn to avoid the very popular children's swimming pool area. Our executive seaview room was spacious with a great balcony, and contained everything that one needs for an enjoyable holiday. The only real downside is the almost non-existent beach (it seemed as if though the beach had suffered some storm damage - what you see in the sunset photo are black sandbags, not rocks). We must specifically compliment the hotel on its employees - the staff were incredibly helpful and kind when my husband became ill while we were having dinner at Sigi’s. Not only did they call the St John’s ambulance, who did a basic health check in our hotel room, they even went so far as waive the cost of our dinner and to call our room after an hour or two to determine if my husband was feeling better and if they could provide any further support. Their kindness and support meant the world to us!
