“Relaxing in comfort. Fantastic Hotel”

We (Family of 3 inc 14 year old son) LOVED Shangri-La. It was the perfect way to relax. There are 3 sections to this hotel - Golden Sands, Garden Wing and Rasa Wing. We stayed at GARDEN Wing. From the moment we arrived, we enjoyed every minute. The staff were super friendly. The lobby/pool/dining areas looked awesome. We had to wait less than an hour for our room as we arrived early but we relaxed in the cafe area. Our room was spacious and plenty of room even with the extra roll out bed. Everything was clean, peaceful and a great view of the pool/sea. The buffet breakfast was heaven. All kinds of food. Hard not to try everything. Staying at Garden Wing, also gives you access to Golden Sands facilities - just take your key with you. Golden Sands is much cheaper and targeting more families with smaller children, ie play area with slides in the pool, soft play area, play centre, sports equipment like badminton/tennis rackets, soccer ball, etc. If you're from Australia, it gave me Gold Coast vibes. However, you do NOT have access to the Rasa Wing facilities. We loved Garden Wing. It is about a 5-7 min walk to the shops. If you are at Golden Sands, the shops are opposite. There is a buggy that takes you between the wings, so do ask and keep an eye out for it if you do not want to walk. However, we enjoyed walking along the beach side to reach Golden Sands. There are plenty of food places outside the hotel and if you walk up about 10 mins to the left, (past Golden Sands), you will come across a whole section of restaurants. We were not disappointed with any of the food. The cheapest meal we found was 0.50c (AUD) for Roti Chanai and it was delicious. Not aimed at the tourists as it was a little bit away from the foot traffic but we do wished we found that earlier. Plenty of places to get your massages and facials as well as your shopping. I also tried the hotel spa which was very tranquil. Highly recommended if you want to treat yourself. There was nothing to fault with the hotel, staff or the Garden Wing. Rasa Wing is slightly more expensive but the pool cannot be used by kids. We were very happy in the Garden Wing. If thats too expensive, the Golden Sands is a great option as well. We would definitely stay here again. Oh, if you have kids, do go to the Adventure and Water park nearby. Family fun.

We are a family of 4 and we have booked 2 Rasa deluxe rooms in the Rasa Wing of Rasa Sayang Shangri-La, Penang. We stayed there for a week and loved every minute of it. The rooms did look a bit dated but they were still very comfortable. We stayed on the ground floor where there is a courtyard attached to each room which led to the public garden / beach area and it was absolutely beautiful. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The hotel staff everywhere from reception to restaurants to housekeeping etc were all very friendly and helpful, and we always looked forward to getting back into our room after the rooms have been cleaned to see what towel animals the very clever housekeeping staff have left for us . A very nice touch indeed. The food in the restaurants was fantastic - though this was bad news for our waist line but it was totally worth it. Breakfast was included in our package and we loved our breakfasts and especially the Malaysian drink in The Spice Market Cafe every morning. We had breakfast one morning in Feringgi Grill as well , which was also very nice , but we preferred The Spice Market Cafe as the later had much more food choices and the atmosphere was more casual. We also enjoyed our daily cocktail and canapés in the Rasa Wing Lounge too. The hotel has a nice gym and a few beautiful pools . We only went to the swimming pool in the Rasa Wing as it was nice enough and we didn’t need to explore the other pools. A little note for people who are scared of lizards though - there are a few resident lizards there around the swimming pool sharing the area with hotel guests. The lizards are not aggressive but I’d tried to stay away from them. The hotel offered shuttle bus facilities to the city centre , but we found using the Grab service ( equivalent to Uber in other countries) was also very convenient to explore Penang if your schedule does not coincide with the time table / routes of what the hotel shuttle bus offers. The only down side was the hotel was actually quite far from the city / shopping malls / other tourists attractions etc and the traffic to and from the city can be quite heavy - we did spent quite a bit of time stuck in traffic on the few days we went exploring outside of the resort. We also joined a walking tour organised by the hotel which my husband and kids really enjoyed. The hotels have daily activities on offer but we didn’t get time to join any . Will definitely look at trying out some of them next time when we are back. All in all it was a very enjoyable stay and we look forward to going back again!

“10/10 stay and wonderful staff!”

This was a brilliant hotel, even with the monsoon rain we had on the first day of our stay, this hotel exceeded expectations. Everyone was super friendly and warm. To be honest the cleaners, bellboys and spa staff were probably the most giving and genuinely kindest people there. The spa lady Fariza (I think!) was a bubble of laughs and just super chill which was perfect for the spa and she helped sort out the hot tub temperature - it was scalding hot btw out of her control but all sorted in good time so I was able to enjoy thanks to her! On my last night, I needed some help posting a letter, and the guy on duty at reception, Izzafiz, was incredibly helpful in arranging everything for me. The other men working there also pointed out that the item I wanted to post would require a higher fee, so to avoid any disappointment, they made sure I had the correct amount of Ringgit. They also gave me a realistic timeframe for when I could expect it to arrive — and they were absolutely bang on! I’m really grateful for their help. The post arrived exactly when they estimated it would. It was a great example of true teamwork and genuine knowledge, not just of how the hotel operates, but also of the international postal service. Such a brilliant team! I had a great time and would only stay here if I ever returned to Pinang! The pandan pastries and egg/mince roti at breakfast is a MUST try! Truly an epic buffet! Swimming with geckos and monkeys is truly a unique experience- I say that but ofc not literally swimming with them! They gave a lovely birthday cake as we were on a birthday trip - extremely thoughtful and delicious! The chicken nuggets and watermelon juice room service was 10/10 would recommend. Afternoon tea was a cute affair and very enjoyable- lovely privilege with Rasa Wing. The Shrine on the grounds was interesting! Beautiful trees too! Duty manager Samuel had a warm and kind energy about him, and he was super fast emailing me back about a query- just the best team. Really grateful for his help :) Miss this place already!
