Recently celebrated my birthday at Crowne Plaza Penang Straits and had a really wonderful stay with my family. Truly appreciate the room upgrade with the beautiful sea view — it definitely made the celebration more memorable. The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. It would have been even better with a larger bed, but overall still a very pleasant stay. The club lounge experience was decent, although the food offerings were a little limited, probably due to lower guest traffic during the stay. On the other hand, the breakfast spread was surprisingly good with plenty of variety, and honestly much better than the Sunday 3-in-1 buffet. Overall, we had a lovely time and would definitely consider coming back again for another relaxing family getaway.

Getting from the railway station to the Grab taxi pickup was a long walk, then I realised I was in the wrong place! Finally the car came and I reached the hotel. Check in took longer than anticipated, as I was expecting to be upgraded but was not. Aziz did his best but I was not satisfied. I also asked about the Club Lounge, but considered the cost excessive. However, Harris did offer an upgrade the following day, but I decided to stay in my original room. I was given entry to the Club Lounge and very grateful for that. The service was excellent and a good variety of snacks and drinks available between 18:00. and 20:00. An extensive array of dishes were offered at breakfast, and I understand the focus is on Asian cuisine. However, I would like to have seen a wider selection of cheeses, cold meats. Small commercially produce pots of yogurt were available but no fresh Greek Yogurt. No 'proper' sausages! In general, staff tied to be helpful. A shuttle bus was available, to the shopping centre or to the station. The driver was most helpful. I had a couple of enjoyable trips on the ferry to visit Georgetown. It was interesting just to walk around, e.g. Armenian Street. The second time I took a cab from the ferry to the funicular at Penang Hill. Unfortunately, heavy mist do at the top, no wonderful view of the city! I was looking forward to some coffee and cake, but at the entrance, the waiter said I should go to the tea room!! I was not impressed. Checkout was speedy and the shuttle bus took me to the station as I was going to Kuala Lumpur by train. Thank you everyone for your efforts in trying to please your clients. “Friendly Staff”

Stayed 1 night. Friendly staff. Comfortable room. 24-hr convenience store is on the ground floor with a good selection of snacks.

New crown plaza in penang.intresting room layout and designs.giving it 4 stars as they need to improve service and cleanliness.Breakfast was great but it felt the employees were kind of new in terms of providing service to guests.hopefully improvements going forward

Had a pretty good experience here. Staff were good. Nice room with a great view across to Georgetown. Breakfast was decent and had many options. However, one morning I bit into what had been described as "onion rings" only to discover a totally different texture inside. It turned out that they were actually fake calamari, which is often made from mushrooms. Putting out mislabeled food can be really dangerous, but they didn't seem to think it was a big deal. They fixed it by just removing the label, so that nobody knew what it was! The club lounge was pleasant. Serve yourself at the bar, but there were only 2 spirits available. It would be nice to have a little more variety. The pool was very nice to swim in, but the only complete shade in the afternoon is one table in the corner against the club lounge! Most of the covered area has big open sections, so there's no way to avoid the sun. They should have covered it properly, or at least put shade cloth over the gaps. There's very little nearby and it's quite pedestrian-hostile. Urban planning seems very poor. Probably the nicest looking area that's close to the hotel is a lovely park and playground, but they are fenced off and can't be accessed. The shortest way to walk to/from Penang Sentral involves walking over concrete barriers to cross the Ring Road. You can catch Grab down there for about RM5. However, if you are relying on WiFi, it's a bit of a hassle getting back. Penang Sentral has no WiFi anywhere near the Grab pickup point! (Some shops do and the ferry terminal does, so you can go there and then come back.) Wheelchair access is not the best in some places, such as having a step into the pool area and from the pool area to the toilet area, including the disabled toilet. (That last one is just stupid and dangerous by the building designers.)
