Having just stayed in the E&O for the first time after ten years of visiting Georgetown we booked the victory wing so we chose to roam around the town at night for dinner. We were very pleased with our choice , the room was great and breakfast was faultless. Evening drinks in Sarkies was lovely, we have no complaints about this hotel and as we return annually we think we will return as we completely enjoyed our stay thank you E&O

This is a wonderful hotel, surely one of the best colonial-era hotels in SE Asia. The room was great, the service in the various restaurants and bars was first rate, the menu options were very good, and the overall 'ambience' was excellent. We stayed in the Victory Annex, a relatively modern addition to the hotel done in the colonial style. We loved our stay and will happily return one day.

as the title explains this hotel was a part of that movie’s scene and heritage side is really great with lots of famous legends photos on the wall from Charlie Chaplain to Prince Charles . My booking was 4 nights at annex side suit with balcony. Location was ideal to reach all attractions on Mac 20 minutes walk. Breakfast was not in our expectations however staff quality of food was ok . Coming to negative sides , rooms and even lift needs maintenance. Eating outside of breakfast untidy not carefully cleaned coffee cups . Acik was the star of our breakfast time he was so nice and did everything to pamper us. Door man Mr young man and door keepers are so friendly

We are currently enjoying a weekend staycation at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel, staying in the Victory Annexe Wing. We booked a total of five rooms and I’m staying in one of the rooms by myself. My room was assigned on a higher floor, tucked away in a quiet corner. It is spotlessly clean and equipped with all the basic amenities. The balcony also offers a pleasant view overlooking Gurney Bay, which adds to the relaxing atmosphere. As a property that is generally regarded as a 5-star hotel, I had expected a more seamless experience. Unfortunately, based on our stay so far, the overall service feels closer to a 4-star level and at times even 3-star standard, especially during the check-in experience at the front desk. While waiting to be checked in, we were seated at the lobby. From our experience with other 5-star properties, it is quite common for staff to approach guests and offer simple refreshments, such as bottled water, while they wait. Unfortunately, this was not the case here. It appeared that at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel, such service is only offered if guests specifically ask for it. In addition, no one asked whether we had arrived by car, what our car plate number was for parking registration, or whether we had any luggage that needed assistance to be sent to the room. These are usually basic and standard questions at hotels of this category. The absence of these small but important touches was quite surprising to us. During check-in, one of the lady front desk staff did not provide some of the most basic information, such as the breakfast venue and its operating hours. While this may seem minor, such details are usually expected to be communicated proactively at a hotel of this level. I prefer not to mention her name here, but I am aware of who she is. On a positive note, the staff at Planter’s Lounge on the 6th floor have been attentive and helpful, which is very much appreciated. However, in my room, the TV remote control was malfunctioning. I made three calls to the reception, each about 10–15 minutes apart, yet no technician came to assist. During my last call, the receptionist mentioned that there would be a turndown service around 6 PM and that he would remind the maintenance team again. In addition, although the TV screen itself is quite large, the picture resolution is extremely poor, with visible broken pixels and a “raining” or static-like effect on the screen, which makes the viewing experience rather unpleasant. The hotel itself is beautiful and has a long heritage in Penang, but I hope the management will look into these service gaps. With better attention to guest service and basic hospitality details, the experience could truly match the 5-star reputation of the property.
