This is my 2nd visit to The George. Last came in June23 with my best friend and we decided to return due to the awesome location. Near Toh soon cafe ( 3 mins walk) Haritage snacks ( 5 mins), Chulia Street ( 10 min walk), 88 Siam Massage (2 min walk) and a relatively short GRAB ride to Gurney shopping area depending on the traffic. Service is great, the doorman was very attentive to everyone and whenever he saw us lugging out bags of shopping he will promptly open the doors. Kudos to him for always paying attention. Reception staff was awesome too. My friend and I are very fortunate to have gotten an early check in , we arrived just after 10 am and I had written in to enquire about early check in ( if not available then we can leave our luggage at the hotel and wonder around) and they had our room ready at that time! We managed to get late check out at 1pm too. Of course I understand that this all boils down to availability but it definitely gave us allot of convenience. Room was always kept spick and span by the house keeping gentleman. Beds were nice and firm, 2 pillows provided were good too. Not too soft. There was complimentary drinks ( coke, soya milk and 2 other items which I forgot to take a pic) and 3 packs of snacks on the table. Kettle, mugs, tea and coffee were provided. There is also a water jug and they now have filtered water which you can get near the lifts. This is a great initiative. So thumbs up! The hotel .. depending on where your room faces could be a little noisy in the night so they provided earplugs should you need it. For me it wasn't an issue , 1 of the nights there was the Chingay Parade but overall it was fine. All in all, a very comfortable stay . I had already recommended The George to my mom and uncles back in 2nd half of 2023 to stay which they did for a few nights and I still recommend it today.

“Very nice hotel that’s in a great location.”

Stayed for 3 nights as a couple. The hotel is immaculate with the staff being super friendly and efficient. The whole building is beautiful. Stayed for 3 nights as a couple. The hotel is immaculate with the staff being super friendly and efficient. The whole building is beautiful. We only had 1 meal in the restaurant/bar and it was good quality and competitively priced. The hotel is well situated with Penang road adjacent as is Chulia street. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the hotel.

“Room Condition Below Expectation for Price Paid”

We booked the Governor Twin room at The George Penang by The Crest Collection for three nights at a total cost of $544, and we are quite disappointed with the overall condition of the room provided. For this price point, we expected a much higher standard of cleanliness and maintenance. There are visible stains and marks on the walls, and the room appears worn and not well maintained. This does not reflect the quality presented in your promotional materials or what is expected for this room category. That said, we would like to highlight that the restroom was well maintained and is the best part of the room.

“Get your act together!”

Sadly as a returning customer, the hotel was found to be lacking in a few areas. On checking into the executive room, the ac was not working , the mini fridge too had problems. Sadly as a returning customer, the hotel was found to be lacking in a few areas. On checking into the executive room, the ac was not working , the mini fridge too had problems. These were not known to the staff or hotel until I reported it. An engineer had to be called to repair the ac & though not much could be done to the fridge it took almost half day to cool to desired temperature as the drinks in there were all warm! I'm beginning to wonder when was the last time a hotel guest used the room...never mind the dusty towels! Housekeeping was sluggish...towels were left on bed folded haphazardly. Door man at front entrance wasn't there most times & I had to push or pull the heavy doors myself. If someone was there , I had to tap on door to ask for assistance. Unlike other hotels there was always someone to open the lobby doors or even help with car doors too. The place itself felt deserted...somehow lacking the presence of people or guests. Happy hour was just as bad. With a live band performing..there was hardly a soul in the bar. Hence we too decided to give it a rain check. The ambience of entertainment & fun wasn't there. Not only that, morning buffet breakfast too was seemingly deserted. We were only the regular ones with the other odd one or two. Something's gone amiss in this hotel & unfortunately with new hotels opening , competition will be hard! New hotels nowadays meet high standards , & must strive to maintain quality hospitality. Unless The George does that...its going to be a spiral downtrend.
