We are compelled to write on the fourth day of a 5 night stay on the idyll that is Minang Cove on Tioman Island; for no praise can be too high…. Minang Cove is frankly a paradise. On many levels. The environment is sublime: the sea the beach and the wildlife are breathtaking. We have talked to monkeys, a black tail squirrel, and giant lizards (all most friendly and welcoming - though the latter kept his/her distance). The sea is alive with exotic fish, turtles and coral… the senses are overwhelmed with beauty. There cannot be a more perfectly sandy beach, with crystal clear water at a temperature just cool enough to refresh but otherwise like an endless spa. The skin glistens with pleasure after a dip. The resort itself - maybe 15 dwellings - is supremely intimate, the staff attentive and yet keep a respectful distance. (A note on the extraordinary attentiveness. We were overwhelmed by the breathtaking kindness and initiative of Sofia, who managed to engineer the delivery of some forgotten medication via a mainland pharmacy… ) The rhythm of the place is gentle, relaxing and yet there’s activities should one wish. We have dived with Ana-Ratna who runs the dive school, who coached my inexperience into quiet confidence and encouraged my PADI qualified wife to explore the underwater paradise. Tomorrow we hike to the next village and a waterfall beauty spot. The food is simply exquisite, especially the Tom Yum soups, the Malayan curries and seafood. We’ve tended towards the local authentic dishes, the one Western exception was a fish burger which frankly surpassed anything equivalent experienced at home. We move onto another resort on the island in a couple of days to experience the variety on offer, but question ourselves, for Minang Cove is a place you never want to leave…

“A great relaxing time”

Lovely peaceful place to forget about daily stress ! Staying here is a perfect fit if you like wild snorkeling, walking (trekking, hiking, waterfalls swim), and want to stay away from crazy civilization for a while (no tv in rooms and limited wifi becomes an advantage!). Staying here is a perfect fit if you like wild snorkeling, walking (trekking, hiking, waterfalls swim), and want to stay away from crazy civilization for a while (no tv in rooms and limited wifi becomes an advantage!). Don’t expect usual ‘sticky’ service like in Bali - it’s just as good as needed. If you need something just ask and you would get help. Dinner and Breakfast might be better, since lunch is cooked very nice ) Oh yes, if you need some adrenaline to shake you up - go jump from the jetty, really nice exercise (unless you are super cray - then just go climb Dragon Horns).

The wonderful staff were flexible with activities to suit our preferences, and extremely helpful with special dietary requirements. We were delighted that every night almost the entire buffet was Gluten Free and Celiac-friendly (with gluten-containing items placed well away to avoid cross-contamination). It was such a treat to have so many flavourful options to choose from! Before our arrival, communications were timely and clear. From the moment we stepped foot on the pier, marvelous manager Anna took special care to ensure all our wants and needs were met - including researching how to modify dishes to make them gluten free. Our server Kayron always greeted us with a big smile, and quickly cleared our empty plates. Activities director Sophia provided helpful tips for snorkeling, including currents and recommended direction of travel.  The fully equipped dive shop had weight-belts for us to borrow, which were ready and waiting for us on the boat (along with a gluten free boxed lunch) for our extended full-day snorkel trip to Tulai Island - our favourite snorkel site in Malaysia (Renggis Island was our 2nd favourite from Tioman Island). Minang Cove Resort is a gorgeous place for a relaxing getaway. We had the soft golden sand beach to ourselves for an entire morning. While the beach is tidal, you can still swim from the pier at extreme low tide. The house reef has a nice variety of marine life, including friendly black-tipped reef sharks, giant groupers, and a Honeycomb Moray eel. Our room had excellent water views through floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors opening onto a balcony featuring chairs with pull-out ottomans and adjustable reclining backs. Amenities included a convenient drying rack, lots of closet and drawer space, and a handy beach bag with beach towels. We would have liked to have wifi in the room,  and separation in the top of the curtains to move them out of the way when going onto the balcony. We were fortunate to visit this special place for 4 short nights, and meet the newborn kitten on its birth day. We highly recommend Minang Cove Resort for warm hospitality in a stunning remote location.

Our stay at Minang Cove Resort was honestly one of the most memorable and relaxing experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, everything felt so peaceful and beautifully in sync with nature. Staying in the beachfront villa was truly a dream — waking up to the sound of the waves, the breathtaking sea view right in front of us, and the calming atmosphere made every single moment feel special. What made our experience even more meaningful was the incredible hospitality from the team. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Mr. TJ, Ms. Nana, Ms. Ain, and Sofia for taking such amazing care of us throughout our stay. Their kindness, attentiveness, and genuine warmth made us feel not just like guests, but like family. Every request was handled with a smile, and their thoughtful service really elevated our whole experience. The food at the resort was absolutely delicious — every meal was prepared with great quality and taste, and you could really feel the effort and passion behind it. Dining by the beach with such a beautiful atmosphere made it even more enjoyable and unforgettable. Minang Cove Resort is truly a hidden gem. The combination of stunning natural surroundings, peaceful vibes, excellent food, and outstanding service makes it a perfect place to relax and recharge. We are so grateful for this wonderful experience and will definitely be coming back again. Thank you once again to the amazing team for making our stay so special.
