“Great Hotel”

This was my second trip to Campeche. I absolutely LOVED this hotel. We traveled with family and had two really nice king size rooms. The room my husband and I had was huge and with a view to die for. The staff was very kind and helpful to us. I would absolutely stay here again.

Just a few weeks ago, my wife and I spent five nights at this hotel. In general, our stay was satisfactory. We enjoyed being close to the main plaza (4 blocks away), and the combined ceiling fan and air conditioner. As seniors we also appreciated the elevator. We did not have any problems with the WiFi, and liked the fact we could watch news channels on a large screen TV. The Hotel staff was gracious and very attentive to our questions, and it is common in Mexico, we were immediately approached by some staff with all sort of offers for private taxi services. Our room was good size, well appointed and very clean. We had no street noise problems at all. However, we would have preferred to have a good breakfast restaurant at the hotel instead of walking every day looking for a place open in the early morning. Yes, it is true that they suggest just walking a few steps to Hotel Plaza Campeche. This we did once and we were very disappointed, the breakfast food was not good enough for us. Hotel Plaza Colonial is at the moment a good place to stay in Campeche, and it could be a great place with a few improvements. Let me mention what those could be; a good breakfast service, a refit of their ancient plumbing systems, and better quality towels and toiletries.

Very ornate looking. But didn’t match up the expectations. Pool very tiny and overlooked. Room was ok. Bathroom nice. View of a car park behind. But it was quiet. Some of the group had rooms overlooking the Main Street and said they were noisy. Breakfast was chaos. Great long queue of about thirty people. You could get a bit more organised. Put fruit cereals etc in one section. Juices. Coffee tea. All slightly separate. But no. All together. So after waiting the long long queue. You tried to grab scrambled egg. On one plate. Balance fruit and muesli and yogurt on top of your plate. And also carry a juice because if not. You’d have to queue again. Sorry but if you’ve got at least two coach groups in. All leaving at 8. Then you should know breakfast at 7 ish is going to be absolutely packed out and chaos. Good job I’m a meat eater. Two vegetarians got the scrambled eggs … with ham in. Then some nice looking Mexican wrap over things. Which looked ok. But what was inside. Cheese and ham. They were nice. But I’m not vegetarian. Those on the group who were. Went very hungry

It’s in Historico Area, but is in two parts diagonally across the street from each other. Microscopic lobby and one tiny lift. My room on first floor was quite large. Tiled floor, lots of wasted space, charmless & somehow cold. All hard surfaces, not very comforting. Two ¾ beds, WiFi, aircon, water, safe, no fridge, but plenty of room. Harsh lighting, no reading lights. Reasonable size bathroom with space, but a stand-in-the-bath old-style shower. Weird breakfast set -up – had to walk across the street to Dining Room in sister hotel. Unusually not a breakfast buffet, but starters of fruit, juice & coffee already laid out. Then had to order next course from the waiter. Ok but limited choice & much slower than helping yourself at a buffet
