I booked this hotel for a one night stay and thought it was beautiful. From the skylight in my room to the tile in the bathroom, I found the hotel to be beautiful. As others noted, the room I was in did not have a tv, but I didn't need one since I was only there for a night. I booked through my credit card travel portal and saw a note that the hotel didn't allow check-ins after 8:30. I got in touch with the hotel and they were able to accommodate my 11pm arrival, which I was so grateful for. The grounds of the hotel are amazing, especially the courtyard and the grounds near the pool. It is off the beaten path, but next to a gorgeous park. The staff were fabulous: Lulu and Jorge at the front desk were fabulous and helped me troubleshoot an issue I had, and the person who helped me with my bags went above and beyond. Had the hotel been the only thing I saw in SMA, I would have been happy.

I randomly stumbled upon Villa Santa Monica on a San Miguel del Allende travel forum where another traveler mentioned this hotel was still within walking distance of the central plaza, but a bit removed from the hub of activity, which intrigued me. I like to get a good night’s rest while on vacation! I ended up staying here for 5 days 4 nights and it was so tranquil. The villa grounds are perfect for either a lazy morning or break in the afternoon – a stunning central courtyard, a small pool, peacocks roaming the grounds with a few small birds in the villa itself and even a well-stocked bar for evening libations. It’s right beside the Benito Juarez park where you get a slice of everyday life – from the Zumba class that occurs there 1x per week, kids doing band practice or playing basketball, etc., It’s <10 minute walk to El Jardin (the central plaza) and depending on which path you choose, you can either walk via Almada – which is considered the prettiest street in San Miguel de Allende – or a few others where there are a handful of cafes/convenience stores en route if you opt against breakfast at the hotel (which is not included). I was especially happy to be here because during my visit the San Miguel Archangel festivities were occurring; El Jardin was extremely loud every evening with a concert or other program occurring. As other have noted, the hotel does lack what some would consider modern conveniences (no TV, no A/C in rooms, the bathrooms are a big dated), but it’s well maintained, I appreciated a lot of the original/historical details, it has a ton of charm and the beds were lovely. San Miguel de Allende is a very small town and you can cover it all in 2-3 days max. Furthest spot from the villa is Fabrica la Aurora (the art gallery), which is about a 30 minute walk. I walked everywhere – both day and night – without any issues.

This hotel has gorgeous grounds and a courtyard that is very well maintained. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed several nights in the courtyard in front of the fire. It's a nice location, beside the park, however, it is an uphill walk to the plaza. We enjoyed our stay; however, we would not return to this hotel. They do not have heat. We were given a small space heater, but it wasn't enough to warm the room. The rooms do have fireplaces but be ready to have the smoke smell in your room for days if you use it. We were freezing most of the stay. We switched rooms upon arrival. Our original garden view was of a walkway, so we really couldn't open our curtains without people walking directly in front of our windows. The second room (Don Ignacio) was right off the dining area and much brighter, however, our patio was about 10'x10' with a tiny table and 2 tiny chairs. A family member was in room Dona Susana and it was a very nice room with a great patio. We didn't eat there so can't comment on the food. The staff was wonderful, however, for the amount we paid we expected nicer accommodations.
