What a gorgeous spot! My husband, teen daughter, and I stayed here for one night in late April 2026 and desperately wished we could’ve stayed longer. We’d booked a “panoramic triple with balcony and mountain view” room (which appeared like it would have been on the lowest floor) but upon arrival received a complementary upgrade to a deluxe room on the top floor. One entire wall was glass, looking out over our private balcony and a breathtaking scene of mountains and hillside villages (well, once the weather cleared on day two – for the first day, we instead got a fabulously atmospheric foggy scene that was missing most of the mountains!). The room was spotlessly clean and well laid out, with two twins and a double. Mattress pads made these by far the most comfortable beds out of all those we encountered in Morocco. The HVAC system worked great, and the bathroom was spacious. Prior to being shown to our room, we were greeted by the kind manager, served mint tea, and shown some incredible photos of the views after a winter snowstorm (since the real-time mountains were hiding in the fog at the time we checked in). I’d been a bit apprehensive about the journey to the riad given the extremely detailed, helpful, but admittedly somewhat intimidating instructions sent in advance of our arrival. The alley entry was indeed extremely narrow and to be honest, I’m not sure what we would’ve done had we encountered a car coming in the other direction. We easily crossed the stream (shallow but definitely flowing) in our 2WD rental and proceeded along the brief, winding, dirt hillside track to a small parking lot. From there, it was actually a very short walk along a dirt ridge to reach the riad. Overall, it wasn’t terrible in the end, but I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable tackling it in snow or a downpour, and I certainly wouldn’t do it in the dark. There’s reportedly a parking lot in the main town for those unable to make the full journey by car, but it would be quite a long walk from there so I’d imagine the riad must send someone to pick you up if you have to use the secondary lot? My daughter and I set out to explore the hillside village and found there wasn’t much of an area accessible to visitors – we’d wanted to locate the cow we heard mooing nearby, but it seemed to be further up the mountain among the villagers’ properties we couldn’t access. But for the short trail we wandered, there were incredible views and flowers around every corner. We then spent the rest of the afternoon and evening enjoying the views from our room balcony and from the communal balcony/dining area, taking in the charming scenes of life in Imlil below as children played and wrapped up school and donkeys and sheep began their journeys home up the winding mountain roads across the way. My husband attempted to do some work, but be aware the wifi connectivity isn’t great. We’d arranged dinner at the riad and opted to take it outside despite the significant cold that had settled in by that time (after spending so much time in the 80s throughout Morocco, it was odd to find it approaching freezing…be sure to bring something for the chilly microclimate here). The food was simple but delicious – we had olives, a traditional soup, bread, a tagine that accommodated our pre-arranged no-red-meat request, and orange and melon slices for dessert. As we ate, calls to prayer began echoing all around us from the various mosques cloaked in fog throughout the valley. Pure magic. Morning was also magical, as we didn’t even have to get out of bed to watch the sunrise, now illuminating a much more impressive set of mountains given that the fog had lifted and the distant, snow-capped peaks had become visible. Breakfast consisted of mint tea and coffee, orange juice, yogurt, boiled eggs, and various breads and pastries with jams, nut spread, and butter. Overall, I would very highly recommend Riad Atlas 4 Seasons. On this trip, we unfortunately only had one night as we squeezed in our visit to this part of the mountains and the nearby Asni Saturday market between stays in Ait Ben Haddou and Agafay, but I’d love to return sometime to make this fabulous riad a home base to explore Imlil and the many area hiking trails.
