“Mixed feedback for this hotel. Not 5 star.”

I stayed at this hotel for a week with my partner for a mix of a relaxing pool holiday and some tourist activities. Let’s start with the positives: the hotel is on lovely grounds, it was very clean, there were plenty of loungers and day beds around the pool and there was a good atmosphere whether you were there with your partner, family or friends. It was only 10 minutes to the city centre. I did have a couple of issues with the hotel. One was that it was 30 plus degrees most days and still warm at night but the air con didn’t go any lower than 20 degrees - we raised this with the hotel and were told they couldn’t change it because it doesn’t go any lower at this time of year. My partner explained that I am 5 months pregnant so need to sleep in a cool room and they then said they’d send an engineer, but that never happened. There was also a smell of bad drainage in the room which we did report but all they did was come and spray air freshener. One night we ordered room service and the left overs were sat outside the room for over 24 hours. There was no iron in the room which I thought strange for a “5 star” hotel. One thing that bothered us the most was an interaction we had with the concierge- we wanted to do a hot air balloon ride which included pick up from the hotel, breakfast, an hours ride and then drop off again, he confirmed this was 2000 dhr (roughly £85 each) we handed over the money then my partner asked him to confirm it was safe for pregnancy. He said he thought it was but called to check and was then advised that they couldn’t take us due to the liability involved. He didn’t immediately give us the cash back, he tried to sell us other trips. My partner came to check with me and then we went back to run through details with him. We were interested in a trip to the Atlas Mountains which included a private car there and back but you had to pay for lunch and a guide separately if you wanted to walk to the waterfall. I asked him how much this was and he said same price as the balloon ride. I said I wasn’t paying that as it wasn’t worth that give it was just a car there and back and didn’t include lunch or a guide. He then slammed the money down on the desk but only gave us half of it (1000 dhr) my partner asked where the rest was and he made excuses and then reluctantly handed over the rest. If you do stay here, bear in mind it may not meet your expectations as a “5 star”hotel. If you do any trips and are booking through the hotel, be sure you check the price online as well so you know you’re not being ripped off.
