Sky Star hotel is located in a green neighborhood towards the eastern part of Yangon. It is located somewhere midway between the airport and downtown but Since it is a little far from downtown Yangon, you might need to budget a travel time of at least 30 mins drive to get to any of the city center part of town. The staff are extremely helpful though to help you find a cab or any other assistance. Rooms: Rooms are a little dated as it seems to be an old property. However, all amenities do exist as youd' expect in any middle tier 3 star hotel. I think the bath tub was a good bonus to have in the room. Other features include Running hot water, tea/coffee maker, safe deposit locker, channel TV etc. Since it is a high rise building, a room on the higher floors guarantees you a panoramic view of the city rooftops and the world famous shwedagon pagoda in the distance with its beaming golden pagoda. Hotel general amenities include a Spa, pool area, bar and restaurant, gym ,business center (which I didn't try out though). There isn't much to do around the hotel as it is located along a main road and anything is at least 15-20 mins walk away. There are a couple of convenience stores (one within the property and one opposite) for basic supplies. Staff are always smiling and at your service. The hotel doesn't have a tour desk though, they can help book taxis for trips Breakfast was decent with a mix of local and continental options to choose from. The room service and F&B in general off the menu is pricey. I wouldn't advise it , if on a budget.However, the flip side is getting food options around is also tough and not in the nearby vicinity of the hotel Would recommend this hotel if on business or work, it has a great parking space ,outdoor gardens and very beautiful setting (I also noticed they have a massive banquet hall and conference facility) , but not really for a tourist who would like to be more accessible to the prime / commercial area and avoid taking a 30 mins drive to reach the downtown area.

“Good and Decent Hotel”

Stayed at the Sky Star Hotel as my usual hotel in Yangon was fully booked. First impression was good. A nice and grand hotel lobby. The staff were very helpful and helped with the luggages without having to prompt them. As we checked in rather late around 9pm there was nobody at the check in desk. Check in was efficient. The room was huge. For the deluxe room the size was over 42 m2. The toilet had a separate bath and a shower. All toilet amenities were provided from toothbrushes, shaver, etc. As for the in room facilites, you got an IPTV which will give you access to live TV, movies etc. Live TV are generally satellite Tv offering local and international channels. News channels like BBC, CNN are available. Overall it worked well in the 1st night. However on the 2nd night the iPTV was not working One thing that is good is they provide free WiFi internet access which has very good internet speed. As for the bed comfort, the bed was not as comfortable as I would like. It was very hard and the mattress was a bit thin. This is one area that will require improvement. Room decor is not luxurious but functional and practical. Floor is not carpeted but with floor laminated. You get a room safe too. Overall no complain on the room. One area which I couldn’t enjoy was the gym. It opens at 7am and that is Just too late. When I arrived at 7am it was still not opened and was told it will open at 7:15 am They should at least open at 6am in order for the guest to use the gym, and then have time for breakfast and then go out to work by 8am. Luckily, the hotel compound was pretty large and I could jog around the compound early in the morning. In addition the weather at 6.30 am at this time of the year (Jan) was very pleasant and cool with the temperature of 19 degrees C. So although the gym was not opened, at least I could jog around the compound. The breakfast buffet was very good. Large variety of food from local to international. I enjoyed my breakfast here for the 2 days that I was here. Overall I would rate it a good decent hotel. Location may not be near the main tourist sites or the city centre. However for business, it’s good. They have a 24 Hour convenient store within the hotel compound. So for those who need to get some stuff, it’s within walking distance near the hotel compound. I would return to stay here again if necessary. Main improvement would be the gym which needs to open earlier to cater for the guests who are on business and perhaps a more comfortable bed.

This hotel is pretty great. The staff is AMAZING! They are so friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is huge and a great selection of food. Pools is fun and nice. The only exception was the room was in need of a little tlc. Wall paper was just starting to peel and a little bit of mold around the A/C unit. other than that it's a very nice hotel. There is not much around if you like to walk around.
