“As special as ever!”

The Hilton Auckland was just great again recently and I could really unwind there. I liked my room with a balcony with its view of the Hotel swimming pool and a sliver of harbour. THe bed and bed linens were super comfortable and dominated by crisap white lines. Breakfast was, as ever, awesome!

Location: (5/5) Right on the waterfront, next to the ferry terminal and Princes Wharf. Location is hard to beat – shopping, dining, bars, and ferry access to Waiheke Island and Devonport are all right there. If you're here to explore Auckland, you couldn't ask for a better base. Room: (3/5) The room is generously sized, and the bathroom features proper wet/dry separation. The balcony offers a nice city-skyline view, and the night-time outlook is pleasant. However: - Shower pressure is disappointingly weak – not ideal for a morning wake-up. - The balcony seat cushions were completely waterlogged due to recent rain. No one had replaced them, and I found out the hard way – my trousers got soaked sitting down. - The bed is comfortable enough, but curtains don't block light properly. The harbour-view rooms face east, meaning early morning sunlight floods in – not great if you're a light sleeper. Noise from ferries and boats starts early. If you're hoping for a sleep-in, this isn't the place. - The tea box claims "Dilmah Exceptional", but inside it's just basic Dilmah English Breakfast – a small but telling detail. Breakfast: (2.5/5) Disappointing, especially for New Zealand. The hotel only serves green kiwi fruit, not the gold variety that New Zealand is famous for – and they were sour and underripe. And then there's the conveyor toaster – it lacked a guard or tray at the exit. If you weren't quick enough, your toast would fly straight off the belt and land on the floor. Meanwhile, as a Diamond member, I'm aware the benefit only covers continental breakfast. But this is the only Hilton I've ever stayed at where staff explicitly told me I was restricted to the cold section only – no hot items allowed. Service: (3/5) Check-in was slow. Arrived at 3 PM as a Diamond member, and the room still wasn't ready. Bottled water had to be requested by phone – it wasn't offered or placed in the room proactively. Staff were polite enough, but nothing stood out. Overall: 3/5 Hilton Auckland has a prime location and spacious rooms, but the execution falls short across the board – weak shower pressure, waterlogged balcony cushions, light-leaking curtains, ferry noise, a misleading tea selection, a sour breakfast experience, and sluggish service. For a Hilton property in a flagship New Zealand city, this simply isn't good enough.
