We had a wonderful time at the Ibis. The staff were friendly, professional, and often went out of their way to make sure our needs were met and we were happy. Special commendations to Ayush, the restaurant bar manager; Sunny, the restaurant supervisor; and Muni for their thoughtful, above and beyond service. During our 10-day stay, they added to the joy of our trip to New Zealand.

“Happy and comfy”

We were a little worried when we got in, as there were some very minor issues with the room, but th staff were kind, helpful and cheerful, both moving rooms for us and assisting with even minor inconvenience. We were a little worried when we got in, as there were some very minor issues with the room, but th staff were kind, helpful and cheerful, both moving rooms for us and assisting with even minor inconvenience. The breakfast is amazing and the rooms are small but comfortable. The hotel was also very quiet, despite being packed with people the whole time. Rooms were cleaned and tidy each day and public transit is easy, with two very close stops. We walked to shops and dinner most evenings.

Let’s set the right context. It’s an Ibis (ex Formula 1 chain). The rooms are literally modular drop-ins. So it has a bit of a prison-style feel in the hallways, the rooms are small, and the bathrooms are a modular unit. Given that, the front of house is nice, and it all comes together well. There’s a Novotel attached too, as there usually is. So if you want more of a regular motel room, for a few dollars more, that’s right there. There’s a decent parking area, but it gets very full. The hidden surprise is the restaurant. It’s large, and the food we had was truly excellent. We were expecting ok to good, but this was way better than expected.

We stayed at Ibis Auckland Ellerslie and unfortunately found the experience underwhelming. We arrived late, around 9:50pm, and while checking in, the staff member was quick to tell us to hurry and order from the restaurant as it was closing in 10 minutes. However, the directions to the restaurant were quite vague, which made the experience feel a bit rushed and unwelcoming. The hallway to the rooms felt more like a university boarding hall corridor than a hotel, which didn’t create a great first impression. We had two rooms which, while very clean, were extremely small. The décor also felt quite tired and in need of an update. Overall, due to the size of the rooms and the overall feel of the property, we would not stay here again—especially as there are other similarly priced accommodation options in the Ellerslie/Mt Wellington area that offer a better experience.
