Kaikoura Quality Suites

“Great accommodation”

We stayed at Kaikora Quality Suites for a night. The room was very clean and had beautiful views. Our check-in was very smooth and the lady at the reception was very welcoming. We had a little kitchenette with all the basic necessities. On the whole our stay was very pleasant and comfortable.

“One night stay”

The hostess Fiona is very enthusiastic to help when checking in. The room is quiet and matching the description. The only minor issue is the smell might come from the wast water sewage when showing.

Do not stay here if you are a non-smoker. Unlike nearly all other NZ motels, this location allows smoking directly outside many rooms, as far as we can tell. Do not stay here if you are a non-smoker. Unlike nearly all other NZ motels, this location allows smoking directly outside many rooms, as far as we can tell. The norm is to allow smoking only completely off site so this is really poor practice ad not sure if it complies with legislation. We stayed 3 nights and frequently had to abandon our verandah as smokers directly below us ruined our appreciation of the gorgeous weather. In addtion, smoke frequently wafted into our room. The most prolific smoker appeared to be the manager. The room itself was sold as an Executive Studio but was in between 2 rooms at adjoining angles so it was a curious rhomboid shape with poor design, and with many features promised but not here. These features, e.g. dining table did seem to be in the units either side of us so I think we were downgraded, which is curious, because even though it is peak season, occupancy was very low. Compared to the listing for an Executive Suite lists we were missing, among other things, a place to sit to eat something. The only table to eat at was outside on the verandah with the cigarette smoke. No satellite TV channels, a tiny bathroom with a basin so small and jammed in there you could not get your face near it. And so on. The main light switch for the room was on the far side of the room from the entrance. There was a weird alcove with a locked adjoining door on the one side (fine), and a Fire Exit door on the other side. Disturbingly, this was also locked and our room key did not open it. Not sure that is legal. There was a fridge but no icebox. The in-room info said if you need more ice, ask reception, but reception had no ice. On day 3 I asked for the customary small bottle of milk supplied, to be given half a bottle, possibly salvaged from guests who had left it? Who may have drunk from it? I did not use it. There was no cupboard and no drawers. There were 2 clothes hangers, hanging from the cables at the back of the TV. There were 2 hooks on the back of a door and that was it. We really enjoyed Kaikoura and the weather, but would never stay here again.
