My partner and I had a very relaxing stay in Taupo. We were warmly greeted when we checked in and shown to our room, already comfortably warm with the heatpump on and the thermal pool filled and ready for us to relax in. A spacious studio with all the usual amenities you'd expect although some decaf coffee would be welcomed. It was very peaceful stay even with the property adjacent to the main road, you certainly wouldn't know it. The private thermal pool was the highlight for us and the big reason why we booked. Would happily stay again when next in Taupo and wanting a peaceful and relaxing stay.

“A little oasis away in Taupo”

“Lovely gardens, a way out of town.”

Basic little two storey apartment with sunny balcony, views of the lake and sunsets, overlooking a lovely rose garden with seating and children's play equipment. Basic little two storey apartment with sunny balcony, views of the lake and sunsets, overlooking a lovely rose garden with seating and children's play equipment. It was very quiet as mostly workmen in the rooms it seemed. Main road runs in front of the complex but not too noisy. Furnished very ikea style and could do with replacing some of it as very worn, marked and tired. Just a cupboard in our room for a wardrobe. Settee in lounge with large tv and comfy bedroom upstairs with doors to the balcony. Kitchen basic but functional and a small bathroom but good shower pressure and hot water. The hot pools are not appealing due to the warnings of bacterial infections, they look tired out to be fair in what is just a small yard at the back. The back area leads on to the parking which is allocated but a squeeze to get parked. However despite all this, it was nice to be away from the main hotels/town and not that far from a main supermarket. We happily catered for ourselves and there was a BBQ if you wanted too. A bonus was a free laundrette with 2 washers and a dryer, free powder too. A welcome change. The owner Bob, I think, was really helpful with places to go and see, he marked a map up as soon as you arrived with top tips on where to go to see a spectacular sunset etc. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, that we saw. You can hire bikes in town at Torpedo 7 for about £20 a day, less for 4 hours, and go all the way down the lake side to Five mile bay one way and the marina the other. Great paths with stunning views and little beaches here and there. There is an awful lot to do around the Taupo area with the National Park being nearby. Huka falls and the jet ride being a must do. Whilst it was a MOTEL rather than a luxury hotel we actually had a great time here, it was very relaxing having your own little basic house, to return to each day especially the hot balcony upstairs with chairs to sunbathe on. There is a veranda in front of the front doors with cafe tables and chairs, which catch the sun too, so nice to eat out.

We stayed here as part of our North Island road trip. The hotel was booked by Trailfinders & so we didn’t know what to expect, but as we were late booking our trip, the hotel was booked as 2 separate bookings to get the 5 nights needed. There are many positives but more negatives. It’s a nice looking hotel with good parking, close to the lake & a fuel station on a major road. It’s a serious walk into Taupo, which we did a couple of times to make use of the many bars & eateries. Very quiet location. The room was spacious with a comfy bed & decent kitchen (all utensils you could think of), there’s a lovely mineral pool in each room, which takes about 20 mins to add the cold & 5 mins to top with volcanic heated water. We should have had a room with an upstairs but they were full & so we ended up with what I would call an ambient disabled room, which was one level & therefore had no privacy if you opened the curtain to the front door. The one guest who thought it was a good idea to look into our room, got me waking naked towards my suitcase - I think she got the shock of her life & a reminder that there are risks to looking into other folks rooms 😳 There is virtually no wardrobe space, so we lived out of our suitcases on the floor near the front door. This meant that housekeeping couldn’t get in much. Lovely well lit spacious bathroom with cracking shower, but since the shower cubicle was the smallest possible, you couldn’t bend down easily. The roof light was covered in dead flies (on the inside) - we did mention this on checking out, but since there was a language barrier, I’m not sure the lady understood what we were saying to her in English. There is a tv & sound system in the room which we used extensively. There is a sofa which we used as a clothes horse due to lack of storage space. There is laundry facilities here but we didn’t use them There is also a well kept garden area with a barbecue which guests can use, but we didn’t. Probably good value for a couple of days stay, but we wouldn’t stay here again - too many negatives.
