We were grateful to receive the upgrade because of our Accor status. We had a separate lounge room and a separate bedroom. The room looked out onto the parkland and the bed was extremely comfortable. We did not hear any noise during our 2-night stay in room 814. It is a corner room located far away from the elevators and the staircase. The room next door to us was the office of the human resource manager and they didn’t make any noise. This was our second stay in this hotel and we highly recommend it.

Friendly and welcoming reception staff made for a pleasant check-in experience, especially arriving from the cold outside into a nice warm lobby. The rooms are quite basic and a little dated, with some maintenance needed here and there. The hallways in particular definitely give off strong 1990s vibes. That said, you can also understand that upgrading a property like this would come at a huge cost. What you’re really paying for here are the tranquil surroundings and relaxing atmosphere. The two hot pools were lovely — a great temperature and very relaxing to swim in. The grounds are also nice and peaceful, making it an easy place to unwind. We had dinner at the restaurant one night, which was fine, although there are better dining options only about 10 minutes’ drive away. Overall, it’s a relaxing place to stay as long as you go in with realistic expectations about the interiors rather than expecting luxury accommodation.

This place has potential to be a 4/5 star. But was a mixed basket for us across our experience so have rated 3. We arrived early and they very kindly stored our luggage for us whilst we explored Taupo as was too early to check in. When we arrived later in the day, we went to our room and I burst into tears, the access was really difficult (had to park the car a considerable distance from our level entry room and walk, so when travelling with young kids and lots of gear plus a documented mobility issue it wasn't a great start) and then I entered the room, I immediately noticed it hadn't been serviced. the floor hadn't been vacuumed and there was muck all over the floor, the previous guests toothpaste spits were still on the mirror, the shower was filthy, there was a hair on the toilet seat, the mattress on one of the double beds was way too long for the base and said base was very ancient and unhygienic looking. The only chair in the room had a broken foot so couldn't sit down on it, ripped and dirty walls etc. I looked at my husband and said for $200 I am really unhappy. We went over to the reception and explained and they very kindly upgraded us to a 2bedroom unit with easy access parking. The 2 bedroom unit was an improvement on what we were originally given but still mouldy curtains (which need attention) dust, grime and just general cleanliness issues, the bedding on the rollaway bed was marked and had no pillow. We were greatful it had an in room laundry and was quiet so we all got a decent sleep. The kids loved the heated pool. We had dinner at the restaurant which although was a very nice meal, over priced as they all are. The service at the restaurant left little to be desired, we had walked over 20 minutes beforehand to have a look at the menu (nothing available in the room) and see how busy they were and we had a chat to the waiter about making a dietry adjustment to a meal which they said would be no trouble, but when we returned 20 minutes later the waiter we ended up with (who was standing next to the other waiter who said they would happily make an adjustment) tried to tell me they wouldn't do that for me as another larger table has just ordered, she just had an unfriendly and unhelpful attidude. I tried to explain that it was only 20 minutes ago that they said they would be happy to make an adjustment and she just walked off, didn't come back and reassure or anything, so i was left there wondering is my meal going to come out suitable for my dietry needs? we ordered a simple dessert after the mains by which time the restaurant was quiet, and they forgot about it, we sat there for 30 minutes without being followed up with and later had to go and ask for it, no return to ask if we wanted to order another drink etc We took the dessert back to our room and it was like it had just been taken straight out of a freezer and handed to us rather than prepared. It wasn't amazing. our expectation of a 'resort' stay wasn't met unfortunately. We killed some cockroaches around the inside of the room too.
