We had a wonderful stay at the Rendezvous Heritage. We had a Lakeview apartment and it was huge. Added bonus was having a washing machine in the room. The views from our room were breathtaking! The bed was super comfortable (very soft which is what I love) and the heating was perfect. The decor is certainly dated but you can’t complain about that at the pricepoint. Dinner in the restaurant was really lovely. Delicious food and a good wine list. A cocktail next to the fire was a lovely way to end the meal. All of the staff were friendly and accomodating. It was a little further out of town than I realised, but there is a bus stop directly across the road and it runs every 15 minutes from early in the morning until late at night (midnight I think). We really loved the walk into town which was about 15 minutes with incredible views. It’s a bit of an uphill climb heading back so we used the bus.

“Great place for a relaxing getaway”

The staff are friendly and the amenities are everything you need for a stress free holiday. Loved our dinner at MacKenzies. The pool was a bit chilly but was great to jump into the spa to warm up afterwards. Highly recommend.

Our room was lovely with a nice view of the lake from the balcony (when we could eventually get our door open) but we only got clean glasses when we specifically asked for them. Although I have seen other reviews where people had trouble with parking but we had no issues during our stay at a cost of $15 per day for undercover secure parking. The biggest problem with the hotel is the location (about a 20-30 minute walk into town and up a steep hill on the way back). It would be great if the hotel offered some sort of shuttle service into town but until then I highly recommend grabbing yourself a Bee card (we got ours on the bus - $5 for the card and you can load whatever amount you think you will need which makes each journey $2.50 instead of $4) for the bus if you are going to be there for a while (parking in town is difficult and expensive) as the bus stops right outside the hotel. PS the complimentary champagne for our wedding anniversary was a lovely surprise!

Rendezvous Hotel is a lovely place to stay overall. It’s an easy walk into town once you know the shortcut across the road heading towards the mini golf and gondala, otherwise, having a car is helpful — though you’ll need to balance that with finding parking in town. Traffic can be slow, but if you allow enough time and have a bit of patience, it all works out. We weren’t able to get a late checkout, which was a bit disappointing given check-in isn’t until 3pm. It does make you wonder what happens in that four-hour window and why flexibility can be so limited. That said, the hotel itself was great — comfortable beds and really plush carpet. A little dated but very cosy. There were a couple of small misses: our hairdryer was broken, and toiletries weren’t consistently replaced each day. Breakfast was good, though timing matters as it can get quite busy with waves of guests. Parking at the hotel was also a bit hit and miss — if you arrive later in the evening, you might miss out and need to park across the road. Not a huge issue, but a little inconvenient to manage. We’d definitely stay again. I do wish we’d splurged on a lake view — it looked beautiful, and I was a bit envious while we were there! That said, we were in New Zealand to explore, not spend all our time in the room. One small suggestion: it would be great if the hotel offered an easier way to access bus tickets. It felt a bit harder than it needed to be as a traveller, and simplifying that could even help ease local traffic — though that’s obviously beyond the hotel’s direct control. Overall, a really pleasant stay and one we’d happily repeat.
