The last stop on our tour of NZ. Why strange - well, the way it is constructed - on different levels, built up on stilts..rather industrial looking! It’s located right by the lake, but a good 45 minute walk out of Queenstown itself. To complicate matters, the walk along the lakefront is currently closed - which is a great shame! The hotel does, however, have a shuttle bus that runs on a very regular basis in and out of town - do make sure you book onto that at the front desk. Our room 110-2 was right on the lowest level, which meant taking a lift down to the car park (which itself is situated within the body of the hotel) walking across the car park and then taking another lift down. As already stated, all rather strange and a little off putting for my wife in particular, when she walked back to our room on her own at night. Overall good, but given the above, we wish we had chosen a more centrally located hotel…with a more conventional design!

We spent three nights here as part of our holiday round South Island. It’s a strange hotel and more like apartment block. Parking was ok and underground but it’s quite complicated to find your way around. We had to change lifts to get from room to reception. Our room was ok with a nice view but I wished we had an apartment with washing machine facilities. We had a lovely guy show us to our room and he also drove the shuttle bus. Forgotten his name but he was very helpful. The restaurant is far too small and people were always queuing for breakfast - why? We ate dinner there one night and it was nice but very limited. We would have eaten a bar meal another night but the space in the reception/ bar area is too small. I feel they miss a trick with not having a bigger bar and cafe area. We used the shuttle and always booked it which worked well. I was cross about the milk situation in room. They put a bottle in on arrival and when it was empty I presumed it would be replaced by housekeeping. No, you have to request a new bottle. After arriving back after a day trip we had to phone and eventually go to reception to get a new bottle. Strange and not explained in the room literature. Definitely not a 5 star experience so beware what you expect.

We were given a voucher for dinner by a dear friend. Rather than dine in the restaurant, we chose to have drinks and food in their house bar, Bordeau. Beautiful setting with lake views. We were given a voucher for dinner by a dear friend. Rather than dine in the restaurant, we chose to have drinks and food in their house bar, Bordeau. Beautiful setting with lake views. However, service was slow with food service being painfully slow. We arrived at around 6.30pm and were still waiting for the last of our order at 10pm. The waiter had to ask us to settle our bill before the last of our order arrived. The dining room downstairs was busy so I guess they were giving that priority. Not sure I would come back or recommend what we did.
