I can highly recommend a stay at Blue Star Dive Resort to anyone who loves the ocean above and below the surface. It has a very welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, a beautiful garden, spacious rooms, the kitchen serves delicious meals and shakes, the view of the ocean from the resort is breathtaking. The dive shop is staffed by a highly experienced crew who know Anda's beautiful dive sites and their inhabitants by heart. They will guide you to nudibranchs, frogfish, electric fire clams and other amazing marine life that live on the impressive reef walls of the area. Blue Star's house reef is easily accessible for snorkelling from shore and you can enjoy the beautiful, healthy coral and swim with the many sea turtles that live there. I enjoyed my time at Blue Star so much that I changed my travel plans to stay longer. Thank you to Jason, Alex, Aya, Joel, Carlo and Louie from the dive crew. I had a lot of fun! Special thanks to Yam who runs the dive shop. He has a deep knowledge of the ocean and scuba diving and a very polite and respectful way of talking to all customers, whether they are snorkellers, beginners or experienced divers. He encouraged me to face my fear of going deep and try scuba diving. I came to Blue Star as a snorkeller and left as an Open Water Diver. Thank you Yam! And a big thank you to Sayong, Theresa, Yangyang, Trixie, Gege, Lesly, Dindin, Kenneth, Mark Ben, Junjun and all of the hotel staff! Your kindness and helpfulness made me feel at home. In my 70 plus years, I do not think I have been treated better than I was during my week at the Blue Star Dive and Resort! Both the diving center and the resort were excellent, and the price was reasonable. I’ll start with the resort. After four flights, and many hours of travel, our pre-arranged transfer from the Cebu airport was smooth. (This involved a taxi to the ferry in Cebu, the ferry transportation to Bohol, and a two-hour van trip, from the Bohol port, to the resort). Sayong, the manager, is very good at organizing everything! The Blue Star Resort is situated above a cliff, and has marvelous ocean views. If you want a quiet location with great diving, good nutritious food, a large comfortable room, and great service this is the place for you! There are only ten rooms, so you are never just one of many tourists here! Furthermore, the grounds are beautifully maintained. And, although the staff are very service orientated, they do not fawn over you! I cannot say enough good things about the dive team. And they are a real team. They all work very hard, and any gratuities are shared amongst the whole team. Just carrying the tanks up and down the steps, plus your dive gear, is a lot of work for them! Nitrox is available and every level of diver is catered to. A group of underwater photographers from Europe arrived when we were there, and they were very happy with Blue Star. Since my husband’s ear was troublesome for much of our stay, I did not have my regular dive buddy. But I was still encouraged to dive, and I was treated like a special grandma. I even had my own night dive with Arjie where we saw critter after critter including a huge green turtle as soon as we descended, and seven octopus! Furthermore, I had never been so close to any turtle, as I was on one dive with Dive Master William. The dive teams are really knowledgably about the macro critters as well, and William wrote the names on his wrist slate while we were diving. They are also great at spotting critters. The coral walls are extensive so one does not have long boat rides to the many dive sites. Just on a single snorkeling excursion, with the Blue Star Team, a family saw at least 20 turtles. Besides diving, we saw numerous local attractions including: Anda Beach, the cave pools at Cabagnaw, the Candijay Rice Terraces along with the adjacent Can-umantad Falls which are the highest in Bohol, and the mystical island of Labanok with its ancient cave paintings, and the Danao Adventure Park with a zipline over an amazing gorge! Our transportation, to these attractions, was always quickly arranged. One could dive in the morning and see other things in the afternoon. In summary, it was wonderful!

From before we arrived, we were treated like family. Our transfers were arranged, the accommodation was very comfortable and clean, the food was excellent, service was excellent, and the dive staff team were also excellent. The views are spectacular. The snorkeling and swimming with the turtles are activities we will never forget. Highly recommended.

“Divers beware!”

The Resort itself is fine but I would not recommend this resort for Scuba Divers because their staff are not well trained. I went to Anda Bohol specifically to go diving and expected Philippine-style service from the Dive crew but I was very disappointed: - on one dive, the crew did not put all my weights on my BC even though it was standard practice for them... I had to abort the dive early (in addition, the Dive Master did not have spare weights with him which I find unusual as most DMs I have come across always carry a spare weight on every dive) - I like to gear up underwater and on my last dive, they tossed my BC into the water but the straps were done up so I had to undo them myself before donning my BC - After the dive, water was served to the caucasian guests but not to me, the only Filipino guest on board... I had to ask for water :( - boarding the dive boat itself is not convenient -- one has to wade in the water, or actually swim a short distance to the boat (when the tide is high) - there were many obvious things I saw underwater that the DMs failed to point out - like frog fish and even a large turtle that the DM just swam by without pointing it out to us. - I had to request for a bucket of fresh water on board the boat to soak my underwater camera in-between dives... the had a bucket there but with salt water ??? - At the resort dive centre, the water for rinsing gear was not changed in two days -- yuck! It's a shame because the crew are eager to help but they have no leadership nor guidance. Dive sites are lovely , but mostly wall dives. No muck diving and they did not offer black water diving either.
