Excellent country hotel just outside Monsaraz. Our room was large and very comfortable and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Beautifully situated and well maintained pool. The highlight was the quality of food in the restaurant

This newly reopened small hotel was a great find during our short trip in the Alentejo. It is a short 5 min drive from the beautiful fortified hilltop village of Monsaraz with its cobbled streets and amazing views. The hotel looks as though it has been artfully renovated recently with money spent on the important things. Our large double bed had a great mattress ( I had the best sleep of our entire 3 week trip) and the bed linens and towels were top class and luxurious. Our bedroom was decorated in a chic rustic style - cool tiled flooring and wooden shutters with simple painted furniture . The bathroom was large with good fittings but no stand alone shower just one in the bath . The toiletries were good. There was a coffee machine and choice of teas in the room but just one rather dry coconut macaroon to eat . We had a small terrace outside our window but this was not private as guests walked past to get to the reception area. We were greeted by the lovely friendly Rita who gave us a brief tour of the building . Adjoining reception there is a good sized sitting area with the largest inglenook type fireplace I have ever seen, a snooker table and some board games set up. While we were there the weather was very hot and so we didn’t see anyone use them but it might be different out of the summer. There are plenty of beds around the good sized infinity pool where there is also a small pool bar .the views accross the wooded from the pool are fabulous and a wonderful place to float , contemplate and relax. There breakfast was very good and taken in avery pleasant room away from the main building . There is currently no restaurant on site which is a shame but I guess one may follow if the hotel takes off. There are plenty of simple places to eat in Monsaraz but reservations are advised as it got pretty busy there at 7pm on Saturday evening. In summary we were thrilled with our discovery of this lovely place and would definitely recommend a stay there to relax and explore the area around the vast lake .

This hotel is in a serene location, just minutes from the magic hilltop town of Monsaraz, nearby notable wineries, Alqueva lake, and within an hour of the UNESCO world heritage town of Evora. It is a quaint and rustic property with lovely architecture and fragrant, free-flowing gardens overlooking ancient olive groves. We were upgraded to a large suite after a minor issue with our previous standard room, but both rooms were very spacious, clean and appointed simply, including coffee/tea station and fireplace (not sure if they are working, but lovely nonetheless). In keeping with the retreat-like vibe of the property, there were no televisions in the rooms. Heavy doors/shutters/drapes kept out the heat and any noise while we were there, but the property was not busy during our stay. The pool area overlooks the olive groves and hills beyond. Since we were there midweek and just before the busy summer season, it was a lovely quiet area we had mostly to ourselves, a great respite from the Alentejo heat which was already in the 90's at the end of May. Other common areas included a sitting room with a large TV, and a billiard room. The service was friendly, low-key, available and very helpful with our issue at check-in. On a practical note, the wifi was spotty in our room, the air conditioning was just adequate for the extra large space, the stone road, though lovey is uneven and may be difficult to traverse for some, and reception is not clearly visible upon entering, so better directional signage would be helpful. The breakfast buffet at the restaurant was good, and you must reserve a spot at dinner if you are going to eat at the property. Beverages/drinks can be purchased at the front desk. Overall, it is a great value for those who value tradition, serenity and a rustic and scenic location for being in and visiting the beautiful and low-key Alentejo region.
