“Great Bikers stop over”

Great base for our biking holiday. I stayed here with 3 friends and we all said we would return. The staff are very helpful and the accommodation was very clean. “Delightful location, business needs improvement”

This business won many awards in the past, there are certificates to prove this, but it seems time has long since passed and the glory days are over. We arrived, took suitcases from the car (plus dog) only to be told that the accommodation was actually 1km or so away from reception and we had to follow a receptionist in the car. The accommodation itself was lovely, not a hotel but an en-suite room in a house, the house was shared with another couple. Delightful location but the facilities were not as advertised - not one restaurant on site (there were supposed to be two), the pool was open but we did not use it as we were there just for one night en-route to Alentejo.We eventually ate at the restaurant by reception (there is no other choice locally), the food was rustic but seems to have lost its charm, my meal was not to my taste at all but it was exchanged, without cost, for something else. The surroundings are lovely and peaceful and I really do hope the management take back control and make this place great again just as it appeared to be in the past. Finally, breakfast was included in our price, so we gave it a try. We do not usually eat in a hotel at breakfast time, preferring to eat along our journey, but we had an early start and decided to go as soon as they opened just after 08.00h - there was no sign of breakfast and the doors were locked. Eventually, someone appeared and opened up and brought out bread, ham, cheese, juice. coffee etc. but by then it was 08.45 before we could begin to eat. This is not excellent service, we were extremely disappointed and, again, hope these issues can be reviewed and corrected by the management team because we felt it such a shame that such a delightful place is now so badly managed.
