“Enjoyable break in Porto”

I stayed in beginning of March, had a very clean and spacious room. There was drinkable water and coffee machine was available. The lobby has always a staff member available and very well located. Had good time and i think it was really good in general in terms of of value for money.

We loved the position of the hotel, with lots of bars and restaurants surrounding it. The staff were so welcoming, professional and went the extra mile to be helpful. We stayed on the third floor in 318, with large king size bed, which was very comfortable and to help with the sleep blackout curtains, soundproofing, brilliant AC. This room had a shower, hairdryer, and coffee machine. We requested a kettle and two mugs, which they obliged us with. We had B&B and the food at breakfast was all tasty, a small criticism was the three types of milk in jars on ice in a wooden container, so pouring out was a challenge. The hotel also offers a bar and Italian family run restaurant. We would definitely make a return visit to both Porto and this hotel.

“Quirky modern hotel”

Quirky modern hotel, very modern and clean but very dark in the dining room corridors and room. Request a high up room which may have more light. Good shower, nice comfy bed and large TV. Quirky modern hotel, very modern and clean but very dark in the dining room corridors and room. Request a high up room which may have more light. Good shower, nice comfy bed and large TV. Friendly young staff not over impressed with the breakfast as very limited for GF they did have bread rolls croissants but they were a very poor standard. Not a cheap hotel so could have been better. Nice bar area, had a meal in the restaurant which had a DJ on the night we went so good atmosphere but the food was only mediocre. Nice restaurants and bars within walking distance which was good. Coffee and cake if wanted late afternoon in reception.

This, on the whole, is a very good hotel. Centrally located, excellent staff, clean spacious rooms, fantastic breakfast (choice, cost etc), great beds, lovely shower and toilet (but the smallest basin ever), great TV, bar facilities in Reception, didn’t try the restaurant (but apparently it is very good), 'free' afternoon beverages and cake, modern and quirky (though not to my taste, I’ll mention this later). However, there are a few down points. Things I consider as basic room requisites were provided INITIALLY, but then if you wanted them topping up, this had to be requested at Reception. Which for the ROOM PRICE CHARGED, I personally think is wrong. Things that are advertised as being in the room - drinking water, coffee making facilities - yes, there’s a glass bottle and a Nespresso machine, with water and coffee pods and sugar, but ONLY ONCE on arrival, then ONLY if you ask for them at Reception afterwards. I was obviously consuming the drinking water and the coffee, but they were not replenished automatically. All under the pretence of being environmentally friendly and avoiding waste while saving the planet. I don’t buy it. Cost cutting more likely. I ended up with 1 sachet of sugar. What good is that to anyone? The management should spend more time and effort in making their guests’ stay better rather than sticking upside down plimsolls and fake plants on the ceilings. Apparently, this is quirky and fun. No. It’s both totally frivolous and unnecessary. So, you will not get your coffee and drinking water replenished, but you can console yourself by admiring upside down useless things stuck to the ceiling. Great! Another quirky thing. The hotel corridors are VERY dark with mirrored walls. Just like those fairground attractions that are designed to confuse you by playing with your senses. And they do. Be prepared for walking into a dead end mirrored wall. Yes, you should be able to see your reflection when approaching, but when you’re concentrating on finding your door in a dark corridor, you aren’t always looking where you’re going. Distracted, you think the corridor continues, then bash, you’ve just walked into a mirrored dead end wall. Be prepared, ESPECIALLY if your door, like mine was, is right next to a mirrored dead end wall and you go for the reflection instead of the 'real thing'. So, to conclude, the hotel does some things VERY well. But others, NO. It isn’t a cheap hotel, and I personally came away feeling I hadn’t had proper service for the money. I would not return but would also suggest you try it out for yourself.
